Didn't read the thread, but this should answer your question:

I renter an FR-S for 3 days. I couldn't stop grinning. It's a car you can wind out 1-3 gear and be barely breaking the speed limit. Your sensation of "fast" is altered - it feels a lot faster than it is. If a jack Russell terrier was a car, it would be an FR-S/BRZ.

370Z is also a fat understeering pig. Which us why we've had multiple people on this board ditch them for Mustangs. It really depends on where you live. For me, in the SF Bay Area, 200hp in a 2700 pound car, is all that I need to make me happy. I'm considering a BRZ as well, if I don't buy my buddy's 03 GT. There's simply no where around here to use more power with the traffic.

I like the BRZ but when I sat in one at the Dallas Auto Show I realized how low and tiny they are. I think I would prefer a WRX. The WRX probably would not appeal to her though. I would still prefer the BRZ over the Z.

Edit: subarus website must have a typo. I looked yesterday and they said it weighed 3680.

So.. Lets play this out...
Your 23 year old wife wants a sports car...
She's narrowed down the looks (because apparently that's all that matters) to either a new Subaru BRZ and new red 370z.
They're both automatic and they're both loaded!
The Z has the track and touring package.
370z would be used, and the BRZ probably new. So... we're talking around $33k for a 370z and below $30k for a BRZ...
And for this situation, you already own a Boss 302.
Which do you buy for her and why?

Now a used '08 Cayman S brings up an interesting opponent but that's 5 years old! Anyone know (for sure) how they are on maintenance? I know many German cars don't age mechanically well or at least they haven't in the past. However, are they like Ford now and becoming more reliable? My brothers x5 didn't age well even though he took real good care of it. Two of my friends Jettas absolutely fell apart.
I'm almost starting to think, for a girl, money and miles talk.
Brand new BRZ/FR-S... 0 miles... Warranty... and still the least expensive :/ ...sounding nice.
For me? I'd just go buy a 5.0 GT... Oh wait I did.

The BRZ is 2700 pounds. And btw, get a manual. It's a super easy car to drive and you could teach her in a day.

So, I love having a manual... downshifting at every stop sign and listening to a little burble... she... with Taylor Swift blaring... won't even think twice. So, it has to be an auto.

I wish a manual!! She can drive one! Just doesn't want to daily. And I'll give her this, we live near downtown Houston and traffic is a pain!

Btw, I haven't driven a 2011+ V6, but the Mustang was only a second faster around the track - yet it was so much more of a handful. I could never drive a stock suspension Mustang so I'd have to factor in around $2k of suspension parts upfront. Driving that FR-S was really eye opening. I couldn't justify $25k on it with the Mustang being around, but dang it was a fun car to drive.

Motor Trend. Mustang was one second faster on the track. They will named the BRZ as a winner of the comparison because it was more fun to drive and felt more stable during driving.
