I don't know if this is the right place so sorry mods but I couldn't wait anymore! I saw the new challenger for the first time in person and almost fell on my face. It really is a sweet lookin ride. I'm die hard mustang but would you guys trade your stang for this?

 

I wouldn't trade in my mustang for it, but if the challenger were to have been available when I got my mustang, I would have surely been torn between them. Same for the Camaro. If there would have been a well priced 2 door muscle car from Ford, Chevy, and Dodge when I got my Mustang, it would have been a difficult decision! But now that I have made my decision, the decision stays unless someone wrecks my car.

 

Sure this is the right place to post a poll about the Challenger. I mean, this totally falls under the "2005+ Mustang GT Performance and Technical Information" section.

Regardless, it's a pretty sweet ride and all...but it's no Mustang!

 

Anybody caught a proposed MSRP for those yet?

If I could get it without extending my payments or increasing my monthly, I'd trade in for one. I LOVE the way it looks and should have at least 340+ hp. It will be heavy but man what a looker! I imagine it's going to be pretty pricey too, for the top model V8 your talking no less than 5k more than a fully loaded Mustang GT. And thats not considering a special edition RT or whatever Dodge calls their high performance models.

But its the real world, I wouldn't trade my car in and start new higher payments on one. But as said before if it came out at the same time as the new Mustang did, it would have been a hard decision, that most probably would have been decided by bottom line...the price.

Don't get me wrong I LOVE my Mustang GT, the looks and price are what got to me more than the hp/tq numbers. I have no regrets and look forward to seeing them on the streets.

i dont see the challenger selling anywhere near what the mustang has and see the camaro selling even less .. i like the challenger but dont care for the front end look of the camaro .. looks to much like a " cartoon car "

 

I like the challenger and all but i will not buy it over the stang. I ahve always liked the bang for the buck of the stang and can always mod the engine to match the challengers hp. But it would be impossible to mod the challengers weight to match the mustang GT.



I honestly think that the production camaros front end will be better in teh production car.

From all the feedback people have given the last 2 years is that the grill is fugly.

It really would be stupid if GM let it be when that is the most srutenized part of the car.

 

It is a very very sweet ride but I think it will be to pricey if it looks like the concept or they will hit the price point but the car will not look no where near as good. That goes double for the Camaro as the General has a history of blowing it when it coes to that sort of thing. Anyone remember the GTO?

 

I think what it would need would be a successful 'low end' market. What I mean is that it will need a lower priced V-6 model. How do you think the Mustang is so successful? It has been the 6 and 4 banger models that have carried the line for 40 yrs. GTOs? no lower priced (V6 models) = small market. As long as they have affordable, small motor, lower priced models, I think they will definitely have a seller. A good example are their 300 and Charger models- mostly V6 models are on the road right now.
Since I've never bought/owned a new car, and the only GT I own is a 69, I think i'll just be hanging on to my ponies

 

The GTO died because it looked like a big cavalier, not because there wasn't a market for it.

 

well the GTO was also too expensive and extremely unpractical.

The trunk is half the size of the stangs and you can't put the rear seat down either. All because it was never designed to pass U.S. standards.

 

Won't trade the car in for it, but I will buy one in 2009 when the 6 speed comes out. There will be NO sticks for the 2008 model year.

 

I think Challenger is a great looking car, but after disaster called "Dodge Intrepid" I don't wanna anything from Chrysler anytime soon.

 

The Dodge Challenger and new Camaro are a dollar short and a day late, or rather 5 years too late and several thousand dollars more expensive. Had they debuted simultaneously with the S197, they probably would have pulled a lot of sales from the Mustangs.

Knowing Chrysler, it will probably have a 5 speed automatic and it will probably weigh in excess of 4000 lb.

Yep. The Challenger is supposed to be based on the LX platform, which isn't lightweight at all (Charger/300/Magnum). Coupled with the fact the high end Charger is supposed to have gobs of torque, it'll probably be on-par with the Ford Crown Victoria in weight (4100-4300 lb).
