Rumor bench racing: 2015 Mustang vs. 2015 Camaro (ATS based) vs. 2015 Barracuda

Which are you most excited for? Which is looking like the winner?

2015 Mustang rumors:
lighter than S197
IRS
Similar dimensions to S197 (but with longer overhangs?) according to C&D
Will retain 5.0 Coyote, will also offer boosted 4cyl, 5.8L Cobra motor probably won't be available
mostly non-retro style

2015 SRT Barracuda rumors:
Top model to have a supercharged 6.2L Hemi
IRS
smaller/lighter than outgoing Challenger
mostly non-retro style

2015 Camaro rumorsBased on the excellent Caddilac ATS platform
IRS
Smaller, lighter than current gen Camaro

Hard to tell as all three cars have great potential to be, well, great. My heart would be for the Stang. Ford already has some top-notch motors, especially the 5.0. Add IRS competence and capability, trim 200-300lbs of fat and you have the makings of a working man's M3.

As for the next Camaro, the ATS chassis is really great and GM's upcoming next-gen small block looks to be a real powerhouse too, so there's real potential there if GM executes it well. Hopefully it will be less of a rolling gun bunker, styling wise.

The Challenger is the one car I would love to see retain its styling as I think it is easily the best of the current three pony cars -- just if they would render it in perhaps 3/4 scale. Of course, some of the Cuda models were lookers too, so if Chrysler does and equally good interpretation with them, that could be a good thing.

The 4.6 Cobra motor went out with the Terminator (although the 5.4 more or less lived on until 2011) The 5.8 has only ever been the 5.8 GT500 motor.

that doesn't mean crap.
I own a new mustang yeah but I'd love to see what that 'cuda has to offer.
Camaros are the ugliest of the ugliest so that's not even in question. Their interior makes me want to puke so they need a complete overhaul is they want my money in the future.

Calm down, all I'm saying is that most of the people on this forum are mustang loyal. I'm not particularly brand loyal I've owned several makes, yet I like many here have a mustang bias. Unless Ford seriously screws this car up the majority of people on the forum will pick the mustang every time. It is an interesting question but unless we are in an unbiased forum the mustang will always be most highly awaited. My prediction the camaro is going to be the most powerful, the mustang most balanced and the Dodge once again will be the least popular. Camaro and mustang have such a loyal following that Dodge lost in the 80s and 90s.

Yeah i mean between all three right now mustang is killing it, but if something better comes out down the road I will go with that. Camaros and challengers are both jokes compared to the mustangs now. The interior is just so refined in the mustang. I can keep going and going haja but old mopar>old ford

IMO, If the Camaro comes out anywhere close to the weight of the ATS (3400lbs), the Mustang will get creamed and lose it's performance advantage that it enjoys now that is if the Mustang only drop a few hundred lbs.

The Mustang needs to be at 3300lbs or lower and bump the Hp to 440 to stay competitive for the next go around, unfortunately I don't see them dropping that much weight of the Mustang.

You never know, I'm sure they are planning an SRT8 version to take on the 600+HP GT500 and 580hp ZL1

I do, the current gen Camaro weights 3850lbs SS with a manual almost the same as the G8 in which it shares it current chassis with, known as the zeta.
The Zeta Chassis will no longer be used and the Alpha chassis will take its place.
The Cadillac ATS weighs 3400lbs meaning that the Camaro won't need to lose weight when it inherent its lighter weight by the nature of a better chassis.

The next gen Camaro IMO will be somewhere 3300-3400lbs with a revise engine for fuel and performance, good low and mid range will make it a big winner for the performance minded crowed.

As for the next gen Mustang, I don't really see it losing to much weight if anything at all. untill the Gen after when they'll have to down size it but this could also mean a smaller displacement engine as-well.

If I've learned anything from Chevy's latest Camaro ZL1 and SS 1LE offerings, it's that technology and engineering can overcome a seemingly insurmountable amount of mass in terms of all sports car performance metrics -- handling, acceleration, etc. To date, we know very little about the next-generation Mustang; even less about the supposed-next-generation Camaro, which, from what I hear, will probably be competing with the refreshed 2018 Mustang rather than the all-new 2015 model. As is always the case, the cars will have to be tested head-to-head-to-head before a victor can be crowned.

I'm curious how the next camaro is going to look I've heard so much about the mustang but nothing on the camaro. Shouldn't they be testing prototypes by now?
