Raced a WS6
I ran into a 6 speed LS1 WS6 last night and figured I would play around with him. All my car has is a Predator 91 octane tune in it. I got next to him at a light and wasn't sure he wanted to race. When the light turned green, I didn't lauch, rather I slowly laid into the throttle. At 5 mph the WS6 driver nailed it and I followed. First gear, I actually pulled a slight bit thru second we were dead even. I know LS1's quite well and know that 3rd gear is where C5's and F-bodies usually pull. When I shifted into third, he starting inching up. I wanted to stay on it more, but I caught his car coming slightly towards my lane and shut it down. When I shut down, I was at the back of his door. He maybe pulled 1/2 a car up to 90ish. I feel that if I had my C&L intake and the supplied tune, things might have been different. I don't street race much, rather I wanted a baseline of what my car was capable of.

How did you let us down because you didn't race to 130??? Sounds like you held your ground.

Sorry but what is a LS1 WS6? Why would anyone name anything LS1 WS6? Why would anyone drive something named LS1 WS6?

If you would have wrecked your beautiful mustang while racing that...um...whats the word...I guess it's a car...that would have been a letdown. :notnice:
As it is, it sounds like you drove pretty even with a car that has 1.1 liters greater displacement.

I knew I was going to lose, but hoped I would find someone who didn't know how to drive. This obviously wasn't the case, with the exception that he couldn't keep the car in his own lane. I usually don't street race, but my right foot got the best of me this time.
I don't think I will have problems with stock 04 GT0's or Auto LS1s from my experience. With the C&L intake, it would have maked this race a bit different.

Here, this ought to make you feel better:
I got my doors blown by a C5 'vette. About a week ago this C5 revs his engine as he was passing my subdivision so I went after him, thinking nothing would really come of it. He egged me on a couple of times so I followed him for a couple of miles to a long country road where I know a lot of kids race. I pulled up next to him at about 45 and he punched it. I downshifted and knew I was in trouble when I hit that hesitation before WOT. I lost about a car length on his jump and stayed within 1/2 a carlength through 3rd gear but after that he started to walk away. He wanted to race from a dead stop but I had learned my lesson. I asked if he was running stock and he just chuckled and said, "Stock? No, pretty far from it." That made me feel a little better so I limped home and checked to see if Kenne Bell or Whipple had gotten their hineys in gear yet! :nono:

I figured if he beat me that badly from a roll, I'd be a gonner from a stop. My rationale was that he had me beat on c.i. and torque and would get too much of an advantage from a dead stop, unless he really lost traction. Before I get flamed...this road is so dead that we pulled up next to one another and talked for 2-3 mins before another car came along....just FYI.

Not to sound like a pansy but I'm not much for street racing. I've seen to many people killed and too many lives destroyed by it ( I am a volunteer firefighter).
I think IMO that you did the right thing by backing off. I would hate to hear that you lost your Mustang or worse got injured because of street racing. Good decision!
