I've dreampt about the 05 'Stang for so long...

But suddenly... a 2001/2002 Trans-Am or Firehawk seems like a WOAH car.

Lets compare the 2:

Both cars are HOT to look at. Both look agressive (the T/A even more so). The large doors of the T/A kinda stink, but I think Lambo doors would solve this problem, along with adding a bit of character as long as the rest of the car doesn't get ricey.
Interior feel/quality goes to the Mustang, hands down. Not a fan of the cheap plastic of the GM interiors.
Preformance... the T/A with its 6 speed MT and 350 LS1 (easily modded to over 400HP) wins.
Ride: again to the 'Stang. Rear ends on F-bodies break too easy under heavy strain.

Am I crazy, or what??

I would also go with the Mustang, but that's because I really dont have that need for speed.
If you do go with the T/A, you better give it some torque thrust wheels or some type of Magnum 500's!

Maybe I'm crazy, save the Mustang for someone that knows what they want. Hopefully that turns out to be you :-)

The Firehawks were really cool cars and rare to boot! Anyone who installs 'lambo' doors on one deserves to be drawn and quartered!!! Still, I'm pretty anti-GM so I'd never consider owning one.

Anyway, after owning my 05 GT for several months, I'll admit there are a few things that I hate about the car... mostly the drive by wire throttle system though. Don't get me wrong, I still enjoy the car but the person who signed off on that design should be strangled by a real throttle cable!

I remember when the T/A commercial came out with the T/A's lights piercing through the dark and smoke with the Blackbird theme. Badarse! Man I wanted one then. At the time I couldn't afford it, though... well, the insurance anyway.

If it was still in production, with refreshed looks and updated underpinnings sporting the LS2 it might be sitting in my driveway. I just can't justify spending my $ on an old car, with old looks, dated interior, etc. while there is an all new Mustang out there.

The only thing the T/A has going for it right now is the LS1. I say get the Stang and mod it.

I hate to change the subject but what is "drive by wire throttle"?
What is better and can the new Stang be modified to it?
Thanks

drive by wire, means that the throttle is driven by a wire signal. No longer does it use a direct cable to throttle plate. So in older mustangs you would hit the gas and throttle plate moves as far as foot did. Throttle by wire, means it is sending a signal to it to open. thus not having a direct ratio, or at very least a delay in response from your foot. most say that this delay has been taken care of with a tune. Good luck. But seriously get a mustang.

Thanks for the replies.

The only reason lambo doors are/were even considered is the fact f-body cars have HUGE doors. After driving my buddies 94 Z-28 around a while, I hated the fact the doors were so large. it made parking at places like a busy Wal-Mart a chore. The scissor doors would allow easier access in times like this. The best door would be the kind that would open conventially, OR scissor. Best of both worlds.

I think I'll wind up getting both sooner or later. A new GT, and farther down the road, a 2002 Firehawk (or T/A WS6) black on black leather with red 35th anniversary stripes and red flaming chicken on the hood.

If you're parking a Firehawk or Mustang, you should be parking out at the end of the lot, where there's lots of room and no one parks next to you. But don't be a jerk and take up two spots out there, thats when people like to come and park right next to you.

I have a 5 year old pick up that is a daily driver and doesn't have one door ding on it because I park at the end of the lot. Plus, you need the exercise.

LS1 is the only single reason to even think about this car. The rest of it is a POS. Engine alone is not a good reason to buy a car.

Don't take this wrong, but if you have to ask yourself this question you don't deserve the '05, buy the T/A.

looking for a beemer right now. forgive me but the difference is over 10K

Why not?
The man cant have options to choose from? A car is a pretty big purchase.
And who does deserve an '05? Just because he is debating what car to get it doesnt mean he wont take care of it or love it as much as the next Mustang owner.
(although that talk about lambo doors is suspicious j/k :P )
