Hello everyone. This is my first post! I just signed up, although I've been a Lurker for quite some time.

Now, I need a little bit of help from all of you guys. I've been desperatly trying to choose which would be best for me for a few months now. I'm tired of pulling hair and waiting. I want to get something finally.

Okay, a little background, so you can help me a little better. I'm 19, I live in Georgia. A small Rural town in Georgia. Although Mustangs aren't common, they aren't rare. Though, 95% of them are V6's. I really want to stand out. Currently, I drive an old 1995 Camry. Which, it was free, and allows me to save up for my future Mustang.

I've been saving for a while, and the time is here, I really want to buy one now. But, what do I choose? I like to think of myself as a responsible driver. I've NEVER been in a wreck in my entire life. None of my immediate family has been in a wreck in the past 10 years. Now, don't get me wrong, I DO want a Mustang with some Umph! Although, I wont be rip-roaring it all the time. There is a time and place for doing that. I want to be ready when that time arrives.

Now, a little more about me. I disslike "Ricers" Don't get me wrong, I've got nothing against Imports, or even 4-bangers. In fact, I drive a 4-banger at the moment. I just don't like it when people add decals of parts they don't own. Huge wings on front wheel drive cars, etc. etc. (I don't wish to Argue about stuff like this. I am just simply saying I disslike such things. I do not like to advertise what I do not own. To each his own, if you like doing stuff like that, more power to you! ) In my small town, these type of cars are plentiful. With reason, they are extremely affordable. I'm just not into such things. I want to feel the power of the V8, and I've long been a Mustang Fan. (And my father, and my grandpa.)

So, now onto my choices.

2005 Mustang GT
This was originally what I was shooting for. I fell in love with this beast when I first layed eyes on it. It's just so damned sexy to me. There are a few problems with acquiring one, though. In my small town, Dealers don't get many. They can't keep them in stock. And they sell for way over sticker price. These are all heavy drawbacks. I have yet to see one of these babys in my town.

2003/2004 Mach 1
Similar power as the '05 GT. VERY stylish to me. I love that shaker hood. I mean, c'mon it's a friggin Mach 1. That's heritage right there. That's also why I love it. I've seen 1 or 2 of these in my town.

2003/2004 Cobra
I'd LOVE to own one of these. It's got quite the Price tag (for me, at least) Though, I've been looking at some used ones for around 25K. Not bad! Low millage too (Around 8,000) This would be the ULTIMATE for me, I think. I'm not entirely sure about everything on this car. How do they handle? etc. etc.

I've seen a few more for sale as well. Misc. Roush's and such. Like the 2002 360R. They all seemed like good deals. But, I think I've limited down to the above 3 vehicles.

Now, among my other concerns are things such as Fuel economy. Gas prices are going up, and this has caught my attention for my future 'Stang. Right now they are at $2.05 for 87 Octane(I know, that's cheap compared to other places) Also, another one of my concerns, should I start buying higher octane once I acquire my new car?
Another main issue with me is, Insurance. I'm a single male, 19 years old. Insurance will cream me! I've only had this Camry for about half a year now, the insurance on it seems fairly cheap to me.

Aye, aye aye. With all this stuff to think about, it's hard to make a decision. I currently live in my Great Grandma's house (She passed away this past Octaboer at the age of 95. ) So my bills are few, and cheap. I am certain I can afford these cars. I'm not entirely sure about the insurance, but I'm fairly certain i can afford that as well. (I know I can for the 05 GT)

Living in a small town makes things easier on me. Because everythigng seems to be cheaper. (Hooray!) It also makes owning a GT a rare thing to see. But I've fallen in love with all three of these cars. I really do not want to just be another brick in the wall. (Pink Floyd, anyone?) I love being unique, and these would probally do it! (Not so much the 05 GT as the others, but you get the point)

So Mustang Experts, what are your opinions? Should I go for the gold? (Cobra) Or should I settle for less? (mach 1, 05 GT) I really do love the styling o nthe new 05's. But they will be hard for me to get, seeing as how they are a hot car at the moment.

Please, if you need more information, ask. If you think of something else, I'll be eager to hear it!

Thanks in advance!

Sorry for the double post.

Also, can you post what you think of each of these cars? (And possibly other suggestions?)

What about tops speeds? 0-60s? 1/8 and 1/4 mile times? Fuel economy? I do like to read and compare specs.

Jim-

Hello and Welcome!

My advice (if you haven't already) is to drive as many of the Mustangs as you can to get a nice feel for the car. All the Mustangs you have listed are great vehicles. I understand it may be a little hard to test drive an '05, due to availability, but it would be a shame if you purchased a Mach/Cobra without driving an '05 GT and later find (after atest drive) you enjoy the '05 more.

As far as comparing the three Mustangs . . .there are numerous threads regarding each one seperate, as well as togther as the case may be.

Good luck . . .and don't settle. Purchase what YOU really want! Keep us updated.

If fuel economy is what you're looking at then the GT is the way to go. The Mach and Cobra bothe run higher octanes(not sure what the highest is around you). If you are looking for pure performance I would have to say get the Cobra. But if you really want to be different get the Mach. It is the same engine as the older Cobras, and I believe there were less produced. Like you said, It's a friggin' Mach 1. I would personally get the Mach. I love those cars. They have to be one of my favorite Mustangs of all time. Good luck with your choice.

I agree fully with evil_capri. Test drive them all, get a feel for what you like. For the price the Mach might be the best deal. Check with you're insurance co. too. Make sure you can afford everything before you buy. Theres nothing wrong with waiting for the right one to come around. I owned 2 mustangs prior to my 99 and I am happiest with my current Stang. I almost bought a regular 99 GT but I waited it out and found a 1999 35th anniversary Stang which is what I really wanted.

Good luck!

Welcome Jim! Well for my $.02, I'd say the 05 GT and Mach 1 would be your 2 best choices. The Cobra is faster, but will have worse gas mileage and considerably higher insurance. Call your insurance co. now, and just ask what it will be insure each one, and that should get you started on what you have to spend on the car + insurance.

Let us know what you end up with. (we like pix too)

Good luck!

Now just between looks of the 03-04 Mach 1 and the 05 GT.......the Mach wins hands down for me. Especially the black ones

Hello again. Thank you for all the great responses.

I've spoken with all the dealers in my area. I'm beginning to think the 05 GT is out of the question. Especially trying to find one for under sticker price. It's a shame, t'was a pretty car.

Anywho, I agree with you. The Mach 1 is oh-so-tempting. I'll definity be giving a call to see about insurance. That will probally be the deciding factor now.

I will be checking out a 2003 Cobra (Zinc Yellow)in Florida real soon. It's got exactly 8,000 miles on it. The price is definitly right. He's gotta sell it to help pay for his wedding. I'll test drive it and then I'll make my choice. (I've driven my friend's mom's Mach 1. I didn't want to give it back!)

I'm also thinking about checking out a white 2004 Mach 1. It's signed by Dale Jarrett on the dash. 6,800 miles on it.

When I do get my new vehicle. I'll be sure to post high-quality pics for you guys. I love photography, it's a hobby of mine.

Once again, thanks for the thoughts and opinions. I really do appreciate it.

Update! I've finally got my new vehicle. Insurance would have eaten me alive for the Cobra, Mach 1, or 05 GT. So, I decided one something else. Something very special indeed!

I'll let the pics do it justice!

(Note: Those ARE bugs on the front. It's hard to keep them off down here in South Georgia. I Cant stop driving this long enough to clean them off. :P )

The specific problem I'm having is once I attach an image the "Submit" button does not work.

Sorry for my incompetence with the use of these forums. Next time, I'll do better.

(Actually, I think the root of my problem lies within my Browser, FireFox. Is anyone else able to upload pictures with FireFox?)
