WRX STi..One night driving home he pulled a couple of ricer fly-by's. We finally hit a red light together. It turned green just as we came to a stop. I nailed it and pulled him by a couple of lengths up to 60 - 70 mph (there were cars ahead). And this is my fiancee's bone-stock automatic! Thes cars are unbelievable...

I went by a guy in a Mach 1, maybe an '03 the other day on a small, 45MPH 4 lane the other day. Not sure how, but my car chirped second...and kinda left him back there.

Anyway, I was only going about 50-55 because this is a tight, high traffic 45mph deal. Well, when Mr. Mach decided he didn't like what I'd done, he REALLY decided he didn't like it. He attacked with the fervor of a great white. He was going way too nutty for the area. Just as I decided to perhaps catch up a little, the long arm of the law happened by in the opposite direction. At that point I believe I was going about 60, but he was well into the 70-75 range and a good 5 car lengths ahead of me. I backed off immediately as did he. But, once we were clear of the cop, he nailed it again. DEFINITELY NOT stock exhaust, and if that was done, who knows what else. Anyway, I let him go and turned shortly thereafter. Car sounded serious.

I "guess" I've been killed 4 times...

1. 04 Mach 1, sitting at a light, I look over, he's not even paying attention, ok fine, no running, light turns green and he NAILS it. I was still in nuetral playing with the radio, bummer, you should really give someone a heads up if you intend to "go".

2. RX8, sitting at a light late at night, RX8 comes pulling up, rev's at me, uh, no punk, I'm NOT going to waste my gas. Light turns green, he took off, I slowly let out the clutch. Wow, he buried me.

3. F-350 Powerstroke 4x4, sitting at the same light, big 4x4 Powerstroke sitting next to me. Fumbling with the radio, light turns green, I let out the clutch, ladida...,shift into 2nd, ladida...just driving normally when...BWAAAAAAAHHHHH this truck comes flying past me, black smoke pouring out of the exhaust, wtf? He wanted to race? Whatever...

4. Silverado 1500 4x4, coming home today, there is a big sweeping ramp that merges from one freeway to another, I usually take this a bit faster than the speed limit, two lanes so I go around a car and a pickup. Merge onto the new freeway and the two lanes merge into one, I slow down to let the cars in front of me merge, my exit is coming up in 3/4 of a mile. In my rearview mirror this truck is flying up on me, he gets to the left of me and starts gunning his truck and backing off like 3 or 4 times. wtf? I'm stuck behind 12 cars and he's directly left of me, where am I going to go? He "punches" it and meanders ahead of the rest of traffic, I exit. Or did I exit because of my shame?

I've been next to a 03 or 04 Vette at a light and we were both checking each others cars out, but when the light turned green we both just drove away normally. I used to race ALOT on the street with my 90GT, but seeing people do stupid crap like this, has almost steeled my resolve to only run it at the track. Well...almost.

Haven't run it yet!

Nissan Titan. He had me through first as I didn't know we were racing, blood bath after that. I hate it when people actually balieve what they see on commercials. 10.4 inches of ground clearance did little to help when he wanted to race.....

Late to see it, but....

Off the light, I get into it as normal, (decent throttle, I like to hear the new pipes), and I "sense" the car next to me... is still next to me... so I glance over.. late model Grand Prix... I nail it... and he fades back into my rearview mirror... bye bye pontiac... I let up around 80... he is so far back, I might be confused who is who... is that a Civic???

It seems to me that a LOT of folks want to test themsleves... or more properly, thier cars... against the new 05... cus thats what is on the TV right now...

Hi all,
I thought this would be a good topic. I always see us posting threads with kills on a daily basis (that cause our cars are so fast) any how, I very rarley see any threads of us getting killed in a car .vs. car race
As a first responder to accident scenes, I'm sure you can guess that I take issue with this statement.

Not many people post after death, so that part of your statement does hold water.

Street racing injuries and fatalities are under reported, and arguably by a large number. I've been to many suspicious single car accidents. The location, time, etc lead me to believe they weren't on the road alone and a squirrel ran out in front of them. The skid marks, path of departure from the roadway, etc, often imply otherwise.

One vette accident in particular stands out. When I arrived, the driver was fighting the paramedics after losing it on a curve and slamming sideways into a tree in excess of 70mph. The car was just a twisted lump, and he was ejected. A chunk of one of the t-tops took out the front portion of his skull (perhaps the common sense section that he wasn't using in the first place?) My backup unit spotted a silver Porsche orbiting nearby, which scooted when they saw he had noticed. I'll bet a dollar to a doughnut, that Porsche driver saw, and was a participant in that accident. Amazingly, he survived, but never could tell us what really happened that night. His mother kept contact with me for a while, since I'd been the person to bring her the bad news and handled the report. His forehead is concave, and he acts as oddly as he looks. He was a good looking kid from mom's photos, before the accident, of course.

The real question is risk v reward. Driving is already inheirently dangerous. We all take risks the moment we exit the garage.

Why do I care? My race story is from the spring of 1981. My 1969 Cougar had a 351W 4v, new Firestones, and I had just finished a fresh tune for race mix gas. The Monte Carlo I was racing tapped my left rear quarter and sent me into a spin. I was on. My machine was on. I couldn't control the other guy. I put my girlfriends head into the windshield when I hit a pole.

I have no one to blame but myself. I chose to take that guy's challenge, and the exhilaration as I started to pull away from him only lasted for a second.

She survived, but only by the grace of God or luck. My foolishness almost killed her.

Think about it. Your life, the life of your passenger, or the life of the person(s) in the other car or bystander cars. Is it worth the risk?

Joel, I'm not sure you understand my statement.

A KILL, is what us mustangers refer to us whipping some ones behind in a race, not I'm dead I'm about to be put 6 feet deep. I see you have 6 posts so far, so your a newbie. You'll get use to the jargon around here. Don't mean to offend you at all and I am sure we all understand your concern. These are the things we must think about when we let it all hang out, out there on the road.

I usually mess around late at night with no traffic, but even then there is always a risk.

Greg, great story with the cop car race, by the way.

I stand corrected on the term "kill". In retrospect, it should have been obvious to me.

When I decided to get on it - its always when there is no one around to get the in the way and its certainly not going to happen on a busy city street between stop lights.

Im no angel - I did alot of stupid crap in my teens and twenties, raced alot and took way to many chances. Once my friend was killed doing what we often did in our cars reality sunk in and I calmed down- reality stinks.. Now I use common sense when driving fast.
The only race I have been goaded into since I bought the 05 was with a cherry 66 comet that had a 427 in her. This happened on a empty country road - that was straight for 2 miles and no cross roads..if either of us had screwed up - only ones to pay was us... and our relatives who would have had to live with it.

I managed to beat him by about 2 car lengths...

OK, I did get beat by this Pinto.

Seems his 429SCJ can turn 6.0 sec in the 1/8 mile. I just saw his front wheels in the air, then his taillights...

Doug, I'm just using the terms(killed) that I learned on this forum.

Oh yeah, I listed the two cars that toasted, killed, beat, mangled, devoured me. Choose a word that sounds best.
