The Grand National can be made to make insane amounts of horsepower so I have to give it the nod over the IROC.

The GN is a lot faster, but it's much more expensive. A GN in good cond. and 80-90k miles generally goes for around 12-15 grand. A similar IROC will be $3,000-$4,000.

I had a 86 Grand National and it would blow the doors off an 86 IROC. I speak from direct personal experience. Strickly a car for going fast in a straight line though.

I gotta take the GN too. My mechanics teacher from last year is getting an engine built for his from Nashville with 2400hp.

Yeah the GNX with 275hp was faster then the vette of that year.

found some stats on the GNX. 0-60: 5.5 1/4 mile: 13.43@103 pretty awesome.

GNX,
The Grand National and engine that was also available on the T-type was fast as all ....so for standard GN/T-type what hp?
GNX compares more to 89 Trans Am Indi pace car Turbo IMO.
The IROC has the big 5.7. both were rockets..
edit-if you had a grand national that was cool, but if you have a GNX you were hooked up above the GN.

I loved it too, but my car is just as fast with no turbo and out handles it on the curves.

You can tell by my name i love the Blue Oval , but i'm going to be real with this question. A friend of mine had a GN back in 87' and he payed his notes and insurance by taking down Iroc's and Stangs at will back then. The only times he lost was when he stepped out of his class against built smallblocks/big block street machines. Hell i wanted one back then but the money just wasn't there.

1 more for the Grand National. If I couldn't get a Mustang, it would have been this car. (Actually prefer the T-Types since they're basically the same thing - maybe a little more rare). '86~'87 best years. I recall something about GM being "quiet" back then about the fact that the GN could kill a Corvette in a straight line...

At that time, the GN couldn't be beat by any other stock vehicle. I personally watched a GN burn everything including the vettes on a regular basis. I had an '86 GT at the time, and with those horrid 2.86 stock gears, I didn't do too badly against the GN, but it was not to be.

I have owned my'86 GN since new, and I love the car....I had an '84 GN before that, and it was also fun, just not the Brute the 86-87's are,,,

Like a previous post, used GN's are $15k...Iroc about $3-4k...

The GN is really easy to work on, and parts are pretty easy to find, but not like a small block chevy...

The only problem with the GN..is everybody want s to race you...and you have to ignore the wanna be's.......

Buick GN= great car,....years ahead of most cars...
