Any factory city has this happen.

Younger guys get job.
Job pays good cash. (first time guy gets GOOD cash, wants to spend)
Cash buys good car.
Younger guy gets laid off.
No cash/savings = no car
Car lands up on used dealer lots

There's a guy over on the Autoweek forums saying that GTO sales are kicking butt because they sold 2,900 in December which is well above the 1,500 GM expected to sell. He totally ignores the $8,000 discounts it's taking to move them and also that they're about 6,000 shy of the 18,000 they expected to sell for the 2004 MY. Some of these guys are really delusional.

my favorite thing about the gto was commented on in a mag. They said to make the gto more mean looking they put on the hood scoops. he basically said that it was like drawing angry eyebrows on your really old aunt instead of the normals ones.

i just though that was funny.

Not sure about used 05's on car lots. But I do know first hand of a local used car lot that ordered 2 05 GT's to put on his lot. He did it for several reason's , to sell and make a profit, and to get customers to come in and look at other vehicles he has. He got these 05's at dealer cost, cause he does alot of business with buying the trade in's from local Ford lots. As far as any other 05's, I haven't seen any on used lots, a couple v6's on Ford lot, GT is lasting maybe 2 days according to my dealer, but some are gone before they leave the prep area.

I'd sure like to know where all these DEEPLY discounted 05 Mustang GT's are, and where the lots that are filled to the brim with them are. I went to several dealerships in oct/nov and just now recieving calls from them telling me they have only one unclaimed GT that JUST arrived.

I really have to giggle when GM guys talk about interior quality or overall quality. Ford has about the best overall fit and finish over the "big three" now days.

Drag coeficient arguements are fun also, 99% of people do not understand how areo dynamics work, including myself, just because it's shaped like an egg does not necisarily mean it's areo dynamic, there's much more to it than that. And as a general rule, most production cars have what bit of areo they have to improve over all fuel economy, not to shave .003 off their 1/4 mile times.

Also the thread starter sounded like a cool enough guy, wasn't smack talking and sounded like he had a genuine love for cars. Something lacking in most of the reply posts. Like those camero boys, they have no respect for cars just think they are special because they purchased a car thats faster than most in their class.

People who truely love cars don't have a seething hatred of other cars, they can respect and value other cars for what they are.

When I was at the Mustang display at the la auto show, I over heard this guy talking to his buddy as they were drooling over the new mustang. "Boy this is a sharp car, just a shame Ford STILL hasn't caught up with the fbodys after all these years" Maybe if Ford sold so few Mustangs as GM sold Firebirds/TA's/Cameros combined they could afford the CAFE hit of throwing a larger displacement gas guzzler into the Mustang. With current regulations and the popularity of the Mustang Ford would have to sell alot of hybrid cars to keep their CAFE rating. Other wise we'd be taking the hit as the consumer by paying a real premium for the car. I'll be interested when the new Camero comes out as to what will be uder the hood and what the production numbers will be like and especially how much they will cost, real world, not MSRP for the base stripped version.

I read somewhere that the drag coefficient of the 300C (big and blocky) is nearly identical to the 2004 Mach 1 (small and sleek) so you're absolutely right about making judgements on drag coefficients based on looks alone. I'd bet the '05 isn't that much different from the '04 drag coefficient.

Who is they, and what lies? Could you be a little less ambiguous?

I'll refrain from commenting on those GTO owners and their thoughts on the Mustang....I will say this, I am a big Pontiac guy also and own a 2001 Grand Am GT that I use as a daily driver. I've loved it for 4 years now and was stoked when I first heard of the GTO's return and the hp #'s it would bring. Unfortunately, I was VERY underwhelmed by the looks and quarter mile times it put up when it was finally released. It looks more like a cavalier on roids then any GTO in the past, and the mighty 5.7L motor that puts out 50 more hp then the Stang has all kind of trouble trying to run even with my new 4.6L on the street.....They fell well short of pleasing their customers as a whole and it doesn't surprise me to see them making major changes to keep up with the new pony car so soon after it's introduction....IF Pontiac had done half as good a job on the GTO as Ford has on the stang they would have gotten my 33k last year....I'm glad that they failed ultimately, as I saved thousands and got a much better vehicle in the end in my opinion. I for one can't wait to dust the new 400hp GTO when it gets released.....None of us should have any trouble smoking them by adding some performance mods to our stangs and still saving a ton of cash....Keep up the modwork guys and girls so we can represent on the tracks and streets with pride!!!

John

Its funny when all 12 GTO owners have such a chip on thier shoulder, they are so defensive. These are the 10% of leftover IROC owners that can actually afford the new GM turd. The SSR GTO and HHR are all going to go down as sales flops. The irs pig that can not outhandle or brake the $24,900 live axle GT mid-level model. Someone needs to put a pic of the new Shelby's motor on there with the quote from The Color of Money:

"what do you have there in the case?".................

"Doom"

I have a big time Chevy-loving friend who, by even seeing the car for the first time when I drove into his driveway (without even riding/driving it first) fell in love with this car. The biggest shock came later when he admitted that instead of getting a Colorado, he was now strongly considering the '05 Mustang! This car turns heads, and for good reason. A GTO? Fart. I have nothing else to say.

So far this year only 2 Fords that are selling well are Mustang and F-Series. Freestyle is big disappointment, new Focus is also disappointment ...
Here is best example that shows how many problems Ford currently have - they're offering free computer to anyone who buys 2005 Focus.

"I beat a 05 Mustang M6 in my A4 GTO. Both cars had less than 1000 miles. We went from a kick and I pulled on him a couple of times. I would have really killed him from a dead stop.

SDB"

the above was quoted from the gto forum...notice the transmission designations....since when does the 05 mustang have an options 6 speed gearbox? so funny

I thought A4 is Audi, not Pontiac.

It's all about personal taste and my wife and I have always been Mustang nuts. We've owned a number of them and hopefully, according to the dealer, the next will be here by the 5th. I for one would never own a GTO because I just don't like the look, no matter how much power they put under the hood.

Imagine the message boards that are going to pop up when the 06 "Charger" hits the streets. Check out the following article, I got a laugh out of it. The guy talking about how they didn't want to retro, wanted a new look.

http://wardsauto.com/ar/auto_new_dodge_charger/

I can imagine the designers meeting for this one.

Bob-"Hey, how about we just knock the butt end off the Magnum and put on a trunk?"
Joe-"GREAT IDEA!
Bob-"Now what do you think we should do for the engine?"
Joe-"Hemi?"
Bob-"GREAT IDEA!"

The new Charger is born...........
It's not really that bad looking of a car, wish it was a 2 door though. Actually the front end of the Charger and Magnum don't really look alike, the Charger has a much more aggressive front end.
[/b][/quote]
hey i like the charger, 2nd place for best sedan (late models) as soon as it gets released. the best of course is the ford falcon

a two door would be nice tho

and Redstar, the A4 i think referrs to the tranny automatic 4 spd, vs themanula 6 speed in that quote (even tho we dont got one yet... ah GM fans, always lost in disarray...)
