All of this talk reminds me of the person who makes food comparsion in a resturant because the picture of the food looks good v those who have actually tasted it first!
Five year it took GM to do this. Five years. Your seventh grader will be a senior when the Camaro finally comes out and your '05 stang will be finally paid for...and old!

I dont get it. The entire industry is going nuts worrying about CAFE standards and supposedly trying to make more fuel efficient vehicles, but they just keep adding on more and more **** and making cars heavier and heavier. Theyre guessing (probably somewhat accurately) that the camaro will be ~3800lbs, the challenger is 4100+, and id bet by the time the 2010 mustang rolls around itll be pullin at least a couple hundred extra pounds as well. Even econocars like civics and corollas seem to be packing on a lot of weight in the last ten years!
I cant be the only one whod be willing to give up a few creature comforts for a cheaper, faster, better handling, and more fuel efficient version of the same car?
Sorry for the somewhat off-topic rant.

There are talks about Camaro & Challenger for some time now (ever since 2005 Mustang went on sales). New CAFE standards were introduced recently.

I know, but im sure they had a pretty good idea of what was coming. With the resources they have id be surprised if someone at each of the big three isnt at least a few years ahead of the public.

Well look at the cars out there that share a sedan and coupe on the same chassis, there is relatively little difference in the weight. Challenger is the most obvious, then there are the Infiiniti G cars, in both cases nearly identicle weights. If GM gets more than a 100-200 pound difference I would be surprised.

Car tech needs to focus on new diets for these cars. Powers great but reduce the weight and the drastic power increases wont be all that important. Lighter is better for everything.
