Meaning even if it was a 60k car it still wouldn't be competition for the vette, just like the m3 would not be. It all comes down to weight my friend.....

You are young and can enjoy a Vette, so do so. Likely you could drive it every day or cross country and feel perfectly comfortable for years to come. If it's what you want, then get it.

[quote=So really when comparing the corvette and mustang, its almost as fair as comparing the corvette to a motorcycle.....[/quote]

Well stated....I went from a GT vert daily driver, to a C6 vert as my daily driver 4 years ago. The way to own a C6 is to have it in addition to the Mustang. Keep it in the garage and take it out occasionally in good weather....when you might take a motorcycle. Only you can go a lot of places on the bike you can't go in the C6.....you really have to plan ahead when driving one. I can't justify keeping such a rarely used vehicle in addition to the GT vert that should be arriving this week. Besides, in your regular driving, unless you punch it, the stock Mustang will sound better than the stock C6.

It's hard to describe the difference really. Maybe wiki can explain it better between a Sports Car and a Muscle/Pony Car, but I'll give it a stab here. A Mustang (and by extension a Camaro and... errr... in theory a Challenger) could be considered a more practical sports car, having a back seat, more cargo space, more appendage room I believe, and being a fair chunk of cash cheaper, generally speaking. A Corvette (and by extension Sports Cars) sacrifices a lot of that by focusing purely on driving performance in all respects, so less room and more expense for a well-engineered performance machine.

Neither have historically had much in the way of interior fittings and options, but right now I'd say a Mustang has the edge, but you can still get a lot of the same stuff between them. I just know the nav unit in the 2009 Corvette required you to have the DVD in the thing for it to load the maps.

It may not be the most ideal daily driver, but that depends on your preference. I know people who use Corvettes as their daily driver. My Mustang GT will be a daily driver. Unnecessary? Sure, but it's fun usually! And with that interior I should be pretty content even if I'm stuck in traffic.

As for noise level... Welp, InsideLine did this thing where it rates the noise level at full throttle for everything in their full tests, so gathered for your consideration:

2010 Corvette Grand Sport with Dual Mode Exhaust: 87.3 dB
2011 Mustang GT 5.0: 82.5 dB

The older vettes seem to be a half-decibel louder with each past generation.

TBH, I think it might be more fair to compare a vette to a motorcycle.

For newbs, dB scale is logarithmic. Every 3 dB is 2x the "loudness". Every 10 is 10x.

Ok. I never mentioned price, and weight is absolutely a huge factor (kind of a "duh" statement). So is 2 seats vs 4. So is better weight distribution. And so on.

BTW...we all know that even at ~$60k, Mustang still isn't competition. See GT500.

If you can afford a 'vette, buy a 'vette.

But I'm biased. And elitist.

I'd love to own a C6 but can't get past the price of admission never mind the price of maintenance. I loved my C5 but ultimately decided the CTS-V was more "practical". Now I'm moving to the Mustang V6 as a fine blend of practical and fun.

A wise man once said, "Better to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow." I never really used the 400 HP in the CTS-V and the 350 HP in the 'vette is just a tad more than my V6 Mustang now. Granted, lighter but with the V6 Mustang recording 1/4 mile times in the low 5's, it is pretty darn close to that of a C5 'vette. Yeah. Wicked cool.

The only problem with the Mustang is that it's a "me too" car. Everyone has one. Corvette sales measure in the tens of thousands. Mustangs measure in the hundreds of thousands. On the plus side for Mustang, parts end up being a lot cheaper with such high volume production.

Is the 'vette worth $10k more? Oh yes. Is it worth $10k more TO ME? Nope.

Go get a Boxster. Two trunks, and MT rated by FAR the best 2 seater overall....

And that's ok. The 2011 GT was not designed to do that - it was put together to beat Camaro.
I agree 100%. Apples and Oranges.

2010 Corvette Coupe at $45,500 (Invoice) is one hell of a buy.

2011 Mustang GT Base at $27,500 (Invoice + $1250 Rebates) is also one hell of a buy.

Just be glad America still builds cars like this.

Comparing a GT to a Vette is even dumber than comparing a GT500 to one.

Why?

i think you should base your opinion UNTIL you drive the 2011 GT

Both of them are neck and neck in horsepower----

idk----im a short hair away from pulling the trigger on a 2010 C6 coupe 3LT

BUT

Im awaiting to drive the 2011 Stang 5.0-----was going to order the Cali special vert- fully loaded too

One is a sports car. One is not.

One will destroy the other in every aspect of performance.

What is your goal with the car?

Still not sure why you aren't going for a Shelby instead of the 5.0 when you can afford a C6. Why choose the cheeseburger when you can afford the steak?
