I'm trying to convince my mother-in-law to race me in her Maxima since her fiance seems to think the car can beat my stang...

I keep telling them that my car would kill theirs...

i have 260hp and someodd tq (i forgot how much) and they have 255hp and like 2lb of tq... Nissan's have almost no torque...

The 3.5L V6 in the Nissan makes i think about 250 lb-ft of torque, which is pretty decent, but the car is too big to keep up with a mustang gt. With a very good driver behind the wheel the Maxima should be able to do 0-60 in about 6.5 seconds and the 1/4 in the low 15s, the mustang wins hands down in both departments. Do the race and get someone to film it so he will never forget.

Horsepower 255 @ 5,800 RPM
Torque (lbs/ft) 246 @ 4,400 RPM
the 2003 weighs 3239 lbs.

Basically it will be no contest. If it's the stick it'll do to 60 in mid 6, and a quarter at about 15 flat. If it's an auto then the killing will be even worse.
Just go humiliate her

Or you could save your Mustang the disrespect of racing a front drive sedan...

Be careful of discounting the Maxima. The reason I sold my '97GT was because I almost got my posterior area handed to me by one one night. Now granted, the '00 runs a lot better than a '97, but the Nissan has been improved as well and is no slouch.

I think you'll triumph, but not by the leaps and bounds you might think.

Agreed, the VQ is certainly a venerable engine, and the Maxima certainly a quick sedan, however Mustang owners should not ever see Max's as apropriate competition.

Nissan's do have tourqe.
But you'll win of course.
Dave has a good point of view on this
