$65,000 414HP 2008 BMW M3 vs 05 GT
Raced a BMW M3 today. It was one of the new ones, red, convertible really sharp. These things are around $65,000 new, 414hp 4.0 V8, 0-60 in about 5.1 seconds. It was a really nice looking car. Friendly guy in it to, gave me the wave after the run.
Anyway, I see this new red M3 pull up behind me at a light. I've been itching to give her the gun all week inching to work in traffic, and I just washed her this morning and she is all shiny and ready to run. So the light turns green, and THEN... the car to right of the intersection makes an illegal right on red and then doesn't even bother taking the right lane but wide turns all the way over into the fast lane... in front of me. I think it was a white Suzuki Grand Vitara that hadn't been washed in a year and was a nasty grey. Anyway, it always bugs me when people make a wide right turn into the fast lane and then poke, while running a red light, call me crazy.
So I jump out ahead of the car to my right, a Pontiac Sunfire, and then merge over to the right lane and go around said flithy SUV, all the while the M3 is on my bumper like white on rice. We get a respectable distance in front of crappy Suzuki and the M3 decides to head over in the fast lane and floors it. I've got my windows down, so I can hear him coming as he flashes out of my driver's side rear view mirror and into my blind spot. Expecting the ricer flyby, but wanting him to atleast get along side, I go ahead and drop it back down into second, meanwhile, said M3 hood is right next to my door! I gun it, and for a second he's still gaining! I'm thinking I might have waited too long and already gave him a 10-20 mph advantage. And out of the corner of my eye, his fender blinker is right next to me and I'm thinking "oh cool, I like the way they integrated the body sculpting and fender scoop with the side blinker".... anyway...
So I'm in second now and pulling pretty good. I figure his passenger door is about even with my back tire and since it's top his down, I want to make sure I give him a chirp as I go into third, and I do! And then I start to pull away. I get up to ... well let's just say a few car lengths ahead of him and he lets off completely. He pulls up next to me and gives me a "That Close" signal and smile. But I think I could have really blown him away from the light if the Crappy Vitara hadn't pulled out in front of me, and then I basically waited for him to try and come around me.
Then again, he is 414 at the crank, and I'm 439 at the wheel and weigh a few hundred pounds less since he has that heavy retractable hard top.
Still, those BMW's are nice and I've always like them, though I'll never been able to afford them. That's two BMW M3's I've beaten now, but the other was an older 2002 and no trouble at all.
Good times.

Nice job Brad!
Nice job Brad!
Nice
Seems like a bit of an apples and oranges race -- modded Stang Coupe GT vs heavy stock M3 vert -- but interesting nonetheless.
As to which is a better car (stock), M3 (coupe) or Stang GT, well, that depends greatly on the ruler your measuring by. Simple bang for the buck? Stang pretty obviously. Better overall performance car? M3 pretty obviously. Better value? A bit tricky here as while the M3 costs a whole lot more, your getting a lot more. Better strip car? Stang. Better track car? M3.
Guess the real question here is what, as a driver/owner do you want and expect and then see how each car matches up with your specific desires, needs and means.
