Lightbulb 2005 mustang GT VS. 2007 mustang GT

Hi guys, this is a tricky one, this is the situation, I have the chance of changing my beloved 2005 GT 5 sp for a brand new 2007 GT 5 sp

I am thinking about getting rid of my nissan truck and my car, and take advantage of a 6k incentive for the mustang GT(a friend told me about it, I still have to confirm)
both cars are NOT upside down, so I guess I can get like 2 k over each f I take them to the dealer, and the 6k, that would allow me to get my hands into a brand new 2007 for less than 20k

now, the 2005 has 32k miles, the truck has 39k miles, they looks flawless.

the mustang I have now, is the first car I ever purchased brand new, I ordered and waited for it 6 months, it is like my first child, so the feelings for it are string too, but thinking clear, getting a 0 miles car with warranty and end up saving the truck payment, and have a new payment for my car that is maybe lower than the one I have now, sound very appealing, the down side is that I would have to get a GT that is already on the lot, so it is not like I am ordering a cr to my liking, but accepting whatever they have left at the dealer, so maybe I can't get the color I want, or the upgrades I want or have in my car now...

So it kind of looks like a no brainier, but it is a little more complex.

Overall, the 2007 has "what differences" over the 2005?
Did Ford really improved on anything other than the few pounds of added weight for the GT500 body reinforcement?
Thanks Guys, I know this one sound easy, but keep in mind all the factors.
my goal would be sacrificing the 05 but I will get rid of the truck and the payment, and saving a min of 500 bucks a month, if all the numbers work the way they are supposed to.

Unaware of $6K incentive on 07s. Maybe he's refering to the 2006s.

I think if you get 25 for your car it would surprise me. i think most people will spend a few more bucks and get a brand new one.

Heh, you have the incentive list for 07's on the other thread to the penny. There is no 6k incentive and dealers are now sitting on 5-speed coupes pretty hard as they are very difficult to get right now. There is no incentive other then the $1000 rebate. I really don't understand any of the reasoning in the first thread. I wouln't see any real advantage to trading an 05 for an 07 unless you don't like the 05 anymore...

I wasn't sure if there were regional incentives that may come into play.

I went to the dealer, they will give me 36,500 for my car and truck, only 1,500 lower than what I was excpecting. but still, 3500 over what I owe in both cars, over that, they will give me a new car instead of 30,000 msrp go down to 26500 on the door.
I will not have to pay 2 car loans (I dont need the truck anymore since my ex didnt keep the truck) and save over 500 bucks a month, plus I jump from a 2005 GT in perfect condition but with 32700 miles, to a new 2007 exactly like my old GT, but with 0 miles, 36 months warr. and this is not very important really, but it has the leather covered dash and arm rest that I loved and never understood why they didn't do it from the beginnig.
so I will be able to save over 500 bucks a month, pay the same I am paying for my car now, but for a new one, and if I really want to keep paying 1000 bucks per month for car payments, I will pay the new car in 2 years.
but yes, I jump from 2 vehicles with +32k and +39k(no more warranty on the truck ) to the new thing, I don't know how much sense it makes, that is why I post it, so people can write their ideas also.
I can be wrong in my thinking process.
plus I get my ex out of the vehicle titles...
hehe, I am getting personal here, but overall, I will trade 2 cars with almost no warranty for 1 with one, and saving 500 bucks a month.
unless someone here wants to buy my truck , I would sell it for $19500 almost the trade in value of the dealer.

I just don't want to pay 500 bucks for a truck I have no use for anymore.
I was looking for ideas

If you like the car you have, I would recommend selling the truck and keeping the current one. You have already paid on it for around 2 years, you would start payments all over again. Enjoy your car, pay it off and who knows .... you may really like the next redesign and have a paid off car to trade in.

Well its always personal choice, but doesn't sound that bad of a deal versus the convenience. Selling vehicles that are over $5k are a pain in the butt. Heck I work in the dealer and run ebay sales and still typically just trade my own cars in Once you already cross the 'path' mentally to getting a new car, it really drags out waiting to sell your existing car(s).

Since you already walked once, may want to call back up and say, 37500 for the pair and I'm in there. Call your salesperson and keep it simple saying a few mor bucks and we are done and let him sweat it out with the boss and call you back I don't know what the numbers are, but sounds pretty painless and its always worth one more shot for a few extra bucks. Getting someone you don't want on a title off a title is also a big relief. Plus insurance, inspections, local taxes, ect on two cars.

If you have to make three months worth of payments($3000) on both of them trying to sell newer cars against thousands of used car dealership listing on your own(while they depreciate), plus deal with the ex when someone not full of it finally buys it, sounds like a uber-mega-headache to me. If you are already selling yourself on the new car and it does not put you upside-down on the new one, heck I'd do it(I'd do it no matter what to get an ex off my title).

I have owned dozens of cars and dealing with them all day long I already have an acceptence of the loss of 'value' of my own used cars so I don't sweat it so much. They surely aren't investments. It won't be the last car you ever own either. As long as she doesn't expect anything from you for the money you 'recover' from the deal...It will lighten her credit obligations on her beacon, so if you get along and she doesn't care about signing off it couln't be easier.

The new gen of Mustangs after 3 years still is showing no signs of dumping in value quickly either. If what you said is accurate it sounds good to me.

EDIT: heck I read it again and even if I were just breaking even on the trades I would run to get my 'own' new car asap. And don't forget the warranty is now 60k miles. Positive equity+just you on the title+new car smell=no brainer.

Thumbs up

thanks for the replies, I think I am sold, saving money every month, new '07 and getting rid of my ex on the titles and on my ear is worth loosing a 1000 or 2000 against selling the truck myself. I will let them sweat it in the dealer for a few days and next week I will call with the $37500 offer thing and call it a day.

the only thing will be to find a Car in the lot that is really what I like in regard of the color outside and inside, and the "amenities"...
I am taking out the CAI and the SLPS from mine also, since the dealer don't care and don't know I have that in my car.

Getting an X off your titles is worth more than money.

Talking

haha. very true...

trade in an 05GT and a truck for an 07GT: $5000.00 (loss in trade in)

find the right car: 1 day of fighting with delaership.

deal with all the dealership : 4 hours.

getting rid of the EX on title: priceless.

Are they just faster because you have an 07, or do you think they are really faster?

here is why I disagree... 07's are a little bit heavier due to the extra bracing, and smaller gears, unless you got the 3.55 option.

I feel my 07 is much slower than my 05 but I guess that is because the 05 had 3:55 against 3:31 of the 07 and the 07 has 18" wheels against 17" of the 05...

and the clutch of the 05 was hard as rock while the clutch of the 07 is very smooth almost feel soft
the 07 has also the ugly rear end moaning due to clutches and the annoying abs trac control issue that the retarded delaership can't fix no matter what I tell them about the ground 101...

Unless there is something you don't like about your 05 GT, or there is something on a new one that your 05 doesn't have, I don't see why you would want to do that. Of course I'm not talking about any financial reason here. In my opinion, the 05 GT may be more "collectable" because it was the first year of the design change and it also is sort of an anniversary edition (you know ...(1965 to 05). But that's just me.
