I found this at a GTO forum.

Don't pay attention to all the GTO ignorant members just PadreGTO who seems to be a true car enthusiast and had an objective perspective.

http://ls2gto.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8528

And a great time was had by all.

Great to meet all of you and see your cars. Some pretty impressive driving, I'm telling you - by everyone except me. Not only traction problems, but my traps were low all night - best of 110. But it's all about the fun.

We did get in a H/C vs. Maggie run (I think I got it on video). My 12.78 @ 107.85 to his 13.33 @ 104.57. Not the best comparison, but a fun run, and Georgia Goat has a sweet setup on his car (hood and all).

I got spanked by a Cobra who trapped 119! Naturally, he claimed he was stock and the only mod was a baby seat in the back. Guess he thought I missed the 315 Nittos on the rear, the cowl induction, and the aftermarket exhaust. But it was impressive. I'll post that video too.

I honestly think the traction problem was because of the 100% humidity and the dew forming early in the night. I talked with a friend who raced in Dallas GA last night, and she had the same problem.

The 05 GT's were pretty impressive, and they still had the temp tags on them. I gotta admire anyone who takes the car to the track 3 days after buying it. They were running about what I see stock GTO's run at this track - about 14.0 @ 100. But I'm sure those guys will get to modding and we'll have some good competition.

Vids up later if I get a chance.

And next time, let's go to Mr. And Lady Goat's backyard and run the new track in Valdosta. That way our Florida Goats can join us and we'll have our own version of the World's Largest Cocktail Party. (That's a UGA vs. UF joke for you non-Southerners).

Padre

What do you think guys?

I woulda drove it to 15.0 in the quarter...doesn't mean thats what the car will do

We've seen better times, and we'll see worse times...
Wouldn't worry too much.

We'll see some good numbers once people adapt to the new car.

Nobody mentions what kind of Trans they were.

I also found this quote from PadreGTO (who has a 4A GTO)

"I was running 14.2 stock at this same track and the GTs were about the same with a best of 14.0x."

Not bad, the 300HP Mustang holding its own with 350HP GTO's.

obviously the suspension setup helps the 'stang hook up much better, to make up the HP difference.

This explains it for me. I'm still trying to reconcile the 99mph trap speed from Motortrend with this run though.

Now everything is starting to come together. Someone else over at Stangnet posted these same times. I knew that GT owners were testing these cars. I guess no one wants to post their times? I tnink these boards would be flooded with times if they were mid 13's at 103-104. Sort of disappointing but there will be plenty more testing going on in the next few months as tracks begin to close for the winter. Regarless you guys are getting a great car in the '05 GT.

that's another thing, the motor is fresh, you are bound to get better times once it breaks in and "loosens up"

Hey Steve,

How much of a difference will that make? Just curious. I wouldn't read to much into these times until a professional takes a few runs down the track.

I wouldn't take any of these times into real consideration, the only time that matters is the one that I post on the drags. Not what someone else can do. For the matter, gimme the cost difference to the GTO on upgrades for the 05 then we'll really talk. On a similar price level the GTO would get owned by the 05 mustang GT.

Here is the video of the two GT 05

The black GT is suposed to be M5 according to DocGTO/black GTO from ls1gto.com forum.

vid

link to thread at ls1gto.com

Doc GTO / White 2005 GT
R/T-.085 / .337
60ft-2.16 / 1.99
330-5.878 / 5.807
1/8-8.870 / 8.985
mph-82.67 / 76.73
1000-11.434 / 11.735
1/4-13.593 / 14.046
mph-105.18 / 97.76

DocGTO 2004 Black/Red M6-Mods: JBA titanium coated headers/Randon-Tech midpipes/K&N Aircharger/Taylor 8mm Spiro-Pro wires/NGK TR-55 plugs/Diablo Tuner

The black GT beat the 350z 14.2 vs 14.5. B)
A few of then (Padre GTO & the 350z owner Vee Tec) mentioned that their trapspeed that night were 2mph off of their usual trapspeed.

I have to say that the '05 cut some pretty nasty 60' times. A sub 2.0 is either due to a unbelievable driver or is a testament to to the new suspension. What is weird is the fact that the top end of the car...was slow. To me it makes no sense that the car hit a high 8 in the quarter but still couldn't break out of the 14's. Hopefully some break in miles will do wonders.

It's all in the gearing man. That and the torque curve.

Exactly, you can wait all day and still pull off a great 1/4 mile time.
Its the 60' that makes a good difference....not the reaction time

Look at the times..they were close until top end....thats where the GTO started to pull away.

Guy in the 05 was probably not used to it

The car was an automatic and he cut a 1.9. Maybe this car is just not fast? Why is that so hard for people to believe? I am guessing that he has the sense to keep the pedal at full throttle. I will give him that much.
