Gorgeous bimmer. I love those m3 wheels. As many have stated, 1/4mi, its a drivers race. Throw it in the twisties and the m3 is going to pull away. However with the new suspension that the 05 mustang has, its going to keep up alot better than any of its previous versions.

the stang is 100lbs heavier, has more torque though and is down about 30hp(although these GT's are slightly underated).I think since the M3 has a computer upgrade, a likewise '05Gt would be a very good race. Why do so many of you disregard the '05 stang's handling???
I see a lot of M3's over here in winter park, just waiting to catch one at a light.maybe sometime after I get my computer reflashed you can come over to speedworld and we'll race.I am a average driver at best,so it will be interesting.

stock E46 m3 (is the 2005 still e46?, not sure) will eat a stock gt, period.
heck, the tiptronic (paddleshift? forgot its specific name) shifts in ~.1xsec vs a good driver in a gt ~.25sec.
i love my gt to death, and i have whoooped some e36 M3's, but the new ones are very quick and very orgasmicly good looking.
now talking price difference, i know several people with 04 and 05 m3's, which cost them 49-55k$ish. this is a fast LUXURY SEDAN, not a 2dr rwd v8 affordable sports coupe. although the aftermarket for bimmers is much more limited than stangs, and quite expensive (who wants to pay 11k$ for an active autoworks turbo system?...ok well lots of people with money, but compared to 6k to do a good SC job on our stangs?)
my best friends have bmw's, i cant bring myself to bash a car as nice as a new m3, sry.

I think what EVERYONE is REALLY over looking is the power CURVER of these two cars. Yeah, the M3 makes 330hp. At 7900rpm!!! It only makes 265lb-ft of torque vs. the Mustangs 320lb-ft. The Mustang makes peak power at around 5800 rpm (if my memory is correct.
So what does this all mean??? Simple. It means the Mustang will be making MORE power than the M3 through most of the rpm range. I would be willing to bet the M3 won't make more hp than the Mustang until both engines are over 6000rpm (and maybe even 6500 rpm). The M3 is PEAKY as heck!
What that translates into is the Mustang should pull harder, earlier and the M3 will only start to pull harder than the Mustang at the very top of the it's rpm curve. Then it has to shift and drop the rpm back down. The Mustang should be able to take the M3 off the line and in most any 80-100 type exercises (how many people are willing to drop their car into second gear at 70 mph???). The M3 will only be able to catch up IF the 6 speed in the M3 can keep the rpm in the 6500-8000 rpm range. And the driver is a fast shifter.
So I agree it is a drivers race, but I do NOT agree that the M3 is 10% more powerful just because it has 10% more peak hp. There is a LOT of work that goes on well before peak hp. And that area under the curve generally means a LOT more than more people will imagine.

As far as dropping the car into second at 60-70 mph, I do. As a matter of fact most M3 drivers will. The engine is actually built to take that punishment.

"this is a fast LUXURY SEDAN, not a 2dr rwd"
Huh?!?!?!?
The BMW M3 is in no way shape or form a sedan. It's classified as a GT car. 2dr RWD I6 I'm not you're average BMW owner that's all full of themselves. And believe it or not most M3 owners are not like that. Take the lower end BMW owners and I'll agree whole heartedly.

Personally I'm looking forward to my first encounter with the current BMW M3. I smoked the previous gen a while back. Uber M3 do you know when BMW will move the M3 over to the new design the sedan has?

Afternoon ladies and gents...
I was just wondering what the general consensus was on 05 M3's vs 05 GT's? Who do you think would honestly win?
I know one guy with an 05 GT, beautiful car, with CAI, and a reflash done but he won't race me... I resepct his decision even though I get on his case all the time... I won't mention his name since he frequents this board. And because he's a really nice guy. I just wish he'd race me.
I'm in the Tampa Bay area and I'll be going to T&T Thursday Night @ Bradenton Motorsports Park. I would honestly like to find out. So if you're willing let's do a run or 2.
-Matt

I'll run you! My car is 100% stock, except for my new tires & wheels! It's all in fun, and as they say "Inquiring Minds Want to Know". I think it would be an interesting race. Some guys that will be there with me will have an '02 GT, a WRX, and I think one has an Audi A8. Sounds like a good mix to me

Just to let you guys know, I met Uber M3 at the track last night! Let me tell you, he has one beautiful (and fast) machine
We did not get a chance to line-up with one another, things were just too chaotic with people trying to get runs in before the skies busted loose
I'm not sure how many runs he got, but I only managed to get 3, and none of them were very impressive. I was getting serious wheel-hop or total bog :notnice:
This is a whole new animal for me. I used to race at this track many years ago, but it was always with automatics. I really, really need to practice my launch technics. The track surface is entirely different than the street, especially in the amount of traction that is available.
I will let Matt post his times if he wants, but he had ME beat by around a full second, cudos' to him
For those that want to know, my best run was a 14.703 @ 96.30, with a .831 RT (yea, I was taking a nap) and 2.267 60 foot time. That was with around a 3K dump the clutch launch, wheel hop and then bog. I was shifting 1-2, 2-3, at about 5700 to 5800. Shifting to 4th going through the lights, 5900 or so, because I didn't want to hit the limiter.
I know I did pretty crappy this time and I wanted to redeem myself and get more practice, especially in respect to working the clutch to get out of the hole properly :bang: But the Water Gods said it was not to be, and we had to call it a night.
Next oppertunity, they will be honoring a rain-check, is not until Aug. 4th. They are doing no T&T in July. So, I hopefully be able to work some bugs out of my technique and put up a better showing for us stangers.
Here is a pic of me coming off the line against a low 13 second Neon SRT.

As Jeff put it we were unable to get line up due to all the chaos. This was my first time running my M on the track and I believe I can get better times with more pratice. Jeff was a really nice guy and I just wish we could've stayed longer. I got 5 runs in and my worst was my second run 14.549 @ 99.4... after the 2nd run I posted pretty consistant 13.8's. The Track got shut down while I was lined up at the tree with a supercharged 350Z running low 13's. I wouldv'e had my but handed to me but it's all in fun right
I hope I get to meet up with you again some time Jeff...
Later fellas,
Here was my best time of the day.

Jeff, try not dumping the clutch off the line, rather try feathering it to minimize wheel spin, but keep the engine RPM's up. Launching on about 2200 on street tires this way will probably be alot better for you.
Sorry you guys couldnt line up, but Matt, consistent 13.8's aint shabby at all!
