Talking

Last night my good friend and I took our cars for the test. This was the first time he actually saw the new Stang and was very impressed but thought his Audi S4 could take her easily (see Audi S4 stats below) --but I really didn't know what to think at the time.

1. So we were on this two lane road and slowed to about 20MPH and then punched it...both cars gripped the road and tore off. Surprisingly enough, the Stang pulled up front from the beginning at about 1/2 car length and keep the pace. At about 60MPH the Stang aggressivly pulled ahead to about 1 1/2 car lengths!! We then hit the brakes.

2. Now at a light. We were both right on the white crossing line and when the light turned green we matted it! Again both cars gripped the road and we were off! I shifted at just below the 6000 RPM redline from 1st to 2nd and into 3rd before I decided to hit the brakes -- already going near 90 or so in a 45. We both have good radar detectors. Once again all I see is that silver S4 in the rear view mirror!!!

3. On the interstate crusing together at about 65MPH we looked at each other and mouthed the word "GO" and the cars sat and roared. I dropped into 3rd and punched it. We quickly reached 115MPH and radar detectors started sounding, so we pulled the reigns back! Luckly no cops in sight.... However, once again the Stang pulls through VERY impressingly and kills the S4 by 1.5 car lengths from about 65MPH to 115MPH!!!

I am so impressed with this machine!!! I called my friend in the S4 after our last race and the only thing he muttered was.... "you *%*@!"

Now that is pretty darn cool. How much does a base S4 cost? Looks like our pony is a stallion now!

FULLY loaded ..ONLY missing the navigation system your looking at about $52,000 for a car smoked by a 25K fully loaded car =p

and it has 340HP
so to all those magazines saying..well there are plenty of cars with more than 300hp..thats not a giant feat or anything...well at 300 we still beat em with 340
=p :headbang:

i'm in dearborn. All the excitement went down on and round 8 mile and 275. The interstate thing was on 275 between 7 and 6 mile....VERY RISKY!!! That is a highly cop infested area! Better to take her down on 75 near Monroe!

Where are you driving at??

I love the Mustang, and not surprised to see it can hang with much more expensive cars, but there's no way on earth I'd prefer it over an S4/M3 if money were no object.

Street racer kill stories don't impress me.

S4=better looking Jetta with 4 more cylinders

I don't doubt an 05 could beat an S4...I don't remember the weight for an S4 but with the quattro, its gotta be a good bit heavier than the Stang

Thought this was a forum where opinions were welcome.

So you bash more expensive cars simply because they're more expensive? Or you somehow chalk it up to the owners of these cars just being more "conceded" ? Interesting. Has it occurred to you that maybe, just maybe, you sometimes get more when you spend more? Or that people buy more expensive cars because that's what they want, not because they're insecure status seekers? You really think everyone (really, everyone) driving an M3 or S4 does it because they're "conceded" ? (I'm quoting here, becuase you obviously haven't figured out the difference between "conceded" and "conceited").

Nowhere in my post did I say anything negative about the Mustang. It's a $25,000 car that performs better than some more expensive cars, but there are other areas where it gives you just what you'd expect for $25,000 - interior, suspension, feature content, etc. I don't hold any of that against the Mustang - I think it's a good deal.

If street racing is your thing, great, but I'll call it like I see it, and continue to take every kill story with a grain of salt. You don't like it? Deal. Or better yet, come up with a rational argument and convince me instead of this petty, all-caps yelling kid stuff.

i'm going for the mustang becasue i like the car, i've looked at all kinds of cars m3,s4 sl55 amg and for me i don't need that kinds of car yet maybe later in life but right now i'm into american muscle, different strokes for different folks. If the s4 or m3 had alot more power i might consider going that route more but for the money they just don't appeal to me power wise including the cost to mod those cars and get little or no power in return. I think a supercharger for the m3 is around 10k and doesn't add all that much power. just my .02

Agree. I like the Mustang in large part because it's what those cars aren't: expensive, complicated, somewhat overengineered. Plus any modifications I'd like aren't going to cost an arm and a leg - your supercharger example is perfect. The other reason - never have owned a V-8, and after driving the GT, I was sold.

i valet and i;ve driven alotta different cars (and no i dont go crazy driving peoples cars all over creation) when a nice car comes in a spend alittle time with it and see what its got. i take it to the parking lot (500 spaces) and drive it around. and i can tell u ive drivin alotta stuff like s4's a8's AMG's m3's but nothing gave me as much excitement as the manual 05 GT did. NOTHING!!.......the dam and the BMW 325's take too long to respond when the gas is hit. it feels like driving a dam truck

The S4 is still an awesome car, with amazing handling.

I think a good test would be to see how each car fares on a roadcourse. That is where the gap between the S4 and GT will be close.
