03/04 Mach 1 VS 05 GT
Better car 05 GT. Car I would want, 04 Mach 1. Factory special is always better than mod your self special.
There actually were quite a few auto Mach 1s made and since the manual is the more in demand car an auto one can usually be had for a lot less money.

I do find it strange. However, if he'll only get help with getting an auto, then yeah, end of discussion... but I really don't understand it all...
I voted Mach 1 though. I was close to getting one in HS.

I want a Cobra.
Yeah was gonna ask how much safer an auto can be over manual.....guess with the auto you'll have more time to text and such. It's funny a Mach with 50 more hp is ok but a manual is a no go?
To those telling me to get a Cobra... again, thanks for you input, but it has to be an SN 95 Mach or 197 GT. I WILL have a Cobra eventually, but right now I can't drive stick nor afford it and my brother will be using this car soon so I need something else for a few years.
An erstwhile girlfriend wanted a car with an MT but she had no idea how to operate it. She bought the car I drove it home and the next day I taught her how.
However, I was 15 when I got my first 6 speed. I learned how to drive in general on a manual.
I played a lot of Gran Turisom and Need For Speed lol, took me an afternoon to learn the real thing.
Even though I wanted one, my dad even insisted. His reasoning which became mine for whenever I have kids is that 1) once you drive stick, you can drive anything and 2) you learn the most about a car and how it operates when you're the one controlling everything.
But again, I think a V8 will be great either way!

Started driving a stick at 14 I'm now only 22. Have driven mustangs since I started driving. I will never own one thats not stick. I feel 500x safer in my manual no matter the road conditions than an auto. Can not count the number of times being able to pull my car down in lower gears when needed has prolly saved my life due to other stupid drivers on slick roads and just in general from people cutting me off or pulling out in front of me.
Your putting the "stick-shift" on a pedestal as if its a life long achievement. How do you expect to handle a car with 50-100 more horses when you can handle a stick?

We're not saying that, what's the purpose in getting a Mach/cobra that's auto? Might as well get a civic.

The Mach 1 is pretty much what you would have called a Drag Pack back in the 60's. that being said, a built auto Mach 1 is gonna be hard to beat in drag race applications. Not as fun in spirited driving and cornering but could make for a hell of a racer. Good stall converter for launches will kill some clutching competition for sure. If Ford would build a better performing auto trans, you would see a lot more autos ordered. I could only imagine what I could do with my cobra if I had a solid axle and a built auto trans. Looking at close to 9 second territory. Just saying.
I understand man, neither you nor your parents are ready for a cobra and I get that. Just trying to convince you the leap to a manual is nothing like the leap to a cobra. Talk to them, tell them you'll learn, learn it, enjoy your manual Mach 1.
I would most definitely get the Mach 1 over the 05 all day.
I recently picked my OW 5 spd mach 1 back In September. The Mach 1 was the only car for me to look at( ill wait a few more years for the terminator or new 5.0) it was just trying to find a torch red... Well a deal came up that I couldn't pass on and that's how I have the Oxford white.
The mach 1 to me is the perfect buy and beat investment. It is reasonably priced, BA motor! With plenty of potential, looks 10x better than an s197 (IMHO) and I have always loved the 69 machs and when I saw the interior of the current machs and the speedometer cluster like back in the day it blew me away!( mine also came with IUP)
The 4v is a great sounding motor, very smooth and solid.
And in terms of power, no 99-04 gt will come close to that mach 1 (as long as the mach 1 driver knows what they are doing)
I also love the fact that I have a very rare car, it will hold its price if not go up as long as I take care of it and if I ever wanted to I'm sure I could find someone to trade a terminator for it with cash or sell it and make enough. ( I don't really want to ever sell it lol.)
No bias but the best advice I have is try to test drive both and honestly whatever fits you better all around is what you should get!
I was just very partial to the mach 1... And I'm glad lol
Any thoughts or questions just let me know!
