After my ficticious "greedy buyer" story, I am now somewhat curious. Although I'd understand if you guys were mad at me and let this topic fester and die off of disuse, but...

Ok, example, a GT gets sold at MSRP. The dealer gets, what, $3000 profit?

Whatever the number, if they were to sell the same GT at XPlan, they would still get $3000 or would they get less?

This would explain much. Not the marking up, mind, but the whole 'no xplan' thing, maybe, if there was in fact less profit.

Thanks for taking my call.

The way I understand it, they get less commission. Ford didn't make enough GTs in '05, and the dealers are under no obligation to honor the FORD XPLAN. Which I think really stinks! What good is an XPLAN if FOMOCO won't force the dealers to honor it?

I'm already going round and round with the local dealerships on an '06. A lot is going to depend on what their allocation of GTs for '06 is. You can be sure, for the couple thousand I'd save with XPLAN, I'll be checking every dealer within a couple hundred miles of where I live!

If you find a dealer willing to accept the XPLAN, be sure to get a signed receipt showing the PURCHASE PRICE and the down payment paid. I've heard of dealers backing out of XPLAN after they found out how hard it was to get a GT.

It's a privilege, not a right. Think of it that way. X plans are handed out on items that aren’t selling as well, it’s a business.

When I was given an XPLAN PIN#, I was never asked which vehicle I intended to use it for.

I thought the privilege was that a Ford employee could help a friend get a good deal on a vehicle, not just on a vehicle Ford is having trouble selling. It's more an employee privilege being revoked by a dealer, don't you agree?

I never said you were asked which vehicle you intended to use your Xplan PIN with.

"Ford Partner Recognition (X-Plan) pricing is exclusive pricing established by Ford Motor Company. X-plan was developed by Ford Motor Company to reward the suppliers, fleet customers, colleges, organizations and business partners as well as friends and neighbors of US Ford Motor Company employees. "

From there it is up to the dealership to honor it. It’s really simple supply and demand. Just find a dealership that is willing to work with you.

I somewhat agree, there should be some universal system but not every dealership is the same so it can’t be done. They have to do what is in the best interests of the company and the bottom line.

That is true; what you said was, "X plans are handed out on items that aren’t selling as well, it’s a business."

I understand your point. Last year, I used X plan to purchase an '04 F150 and never heard a whimper from the same dealer I'm trying to get an '06 GT from this year. I don't think the F150 wasn't selling well last year. However, Ford probably made enough of them to keep up with demand, which proves your latter point. "Supply and Demand."

I guess the only way to make the dealers unamimously honor the X Plan would be that it comes off FOMOCO's profit margin via rebate to the new car owner after the sale. That way, the dealer could get his MSRP, and the owner would still get a good deal.

I drive for a major trucking company & I've got a real bad feeling that if my dispatcher doesn't find a dealer that will honor his x-plan pin on a new Mustang before long Ford is about to get a supply slow down!

I will be doing a lot more legwork trying to find a dealership in my area that will honor X-Plan, but it's worth it to try. The savings would fund quite a few "upgrades" I have in mind...
