I'll bite... possible silly question inside, Simpson Restraints
I want to get some 4pt harnesses for my car. 06 with stock seats.
*modified this post now that i've done research*
Will 4 point restraints work with stock seats if the shoulder straps are bolted down to the rear of the car (behind the back seat on the frame)?
I don't mind drilling and installing an eye-bolt somewhere in that location...
I only want to do a once a month track day and dont want to get rollbars, racing seats etc.... but i want something that keeps me safe and the stock belts just dont make me too comfortable at high speeds even though they are dot approved.
any input is greatly appreciated.
thanks
jake

i doubt you need it with front and side airbags. i don't think the mounting strap on a 4-point will reach that far back either. Autopower makes a bolt-in roll bar for our cars with a removable harness mount so you still have access to your back seat.
In fact the four point belt while holding you into the seat better will actually make it much more dangerous if you were to get into a crash. If you mount the shoulder straps below a plane defined as horizontal to the ground and intersecting the tops of your shoulders there would be massive spinal compression while the belts tried to make themselves straight.
Using 4 point harness with your stock seat is useless IMO. The stock seats do not have enough bolstering to hold you in. Your body will just compress and twist to the side under the belts. I found myself working extra hard to try to hold myself into the seat and less time driving the car. Spine compression without a horizontal mount on the shoulder straps is a possibility.
I use a Butlerbuilt custom made aluminum seat with seat belt holes at my shoulder height and have G-Force Racing gear belts that are long enough to go to the rear section of the car. I do not have a roll bar yet as an autopower will not work for me because I am 6'6 and have custom seat tracks that allow my seat to go back 5 additional inches. I will have a custom roll bar installed eventually.
I change the my stock seat out for the Butlerbuilt before and after every track event and takes me less than 10 minutes.
Depending on your size and build, there are many types of seats that you can get and it is well worth the money IMO.
