Boss 302R at Grand-Am Test Days at Daytona in January

Eights 1/28/10 09:15 AM

Among the four Boss 302R1s (I've read that the R1s are the Grand-Am versions--regular Rs are SCCA spec and maybe The Mustang Challenge spec), I'd expect the #15 (Or will it be #16?) car of Foster/Maxwell to be the one to beat.

In the six practice sessions, seven vehicles did practice laps in under two minutes, given in descending order below:

Mustang #16, 1:59.215 at over 107.0 MPH (shown as the Foster/Maxwell car by GARRA*)
Mustang #52, 1:59.280 at over 107.0 MPH
Mustang #59, 1:59.399 at over 107.0 MPH
Mustang #11, 1:59.710 at over 107.0 MPH
BMW #97 1:59.724 at over 107.0 MPH
BMW #48 1:59.769 at over 107.0 MPH
BMW #96 1:59.796 at over 106.0 MPH
Camaro #6 1:59.900 at over 106.0 MPH

But these were practice laps--qualifying this evening at 5:30 PM will be more indicative of the times & speeds these vehicles (and others) are capable of on the day before the race

*Apparently, there is a Street Tuner class car already using the number 15, so that number may not be available for use on another car.

I'm confused... isn't this the "Rolex Sports Cars Series Racing" 24 hr Grand Am with both GT & DP's?
That's what DISH 150/Speed shows this Sat at 12p PST. Is this the program the Boss is going to be on?
(I liked the "Grand Am 24 hrs at Daytona" that precedes the start of the race. ;) )

This is the "Grand-Am Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge" which is a 2:30 hour race on Saturday before the start of the Rolex 24 hour race. These cars are much closer to stock than the 24 hour cars. This series has GS (Grand Sport) and ST (Street Tuner) class cars versus DP (Daytona Prototype) and GT (Grand Touring) cars. This series was the Koni Challenge last year. GS cars are the Mustang, M3, 911, Camaro and Challenger. ST cars are the Rx-8, Miata, Civic, Jetta, Mini and Cobalt.

Yeah...the Rolex cars will be televised this weekend. CTC will air 2/13. The rest of the airings are closer to the actual race dates though

On the bumpier track sections, I wonder how much of a difference a IRS would make... just wondering. :fear: The M3's are pretty darn fast and consistent so far.
