Grand-AM Opener & Boss 302R Debut Tomorrow!
The 2010 Grand-Am Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge season begins tomorrow at 1:45 PM Eastern with the Fresh From Florida 200 at Daytona. It marks the debut of the 2011 Mustang Boss 302R, which replaces the FR500C that has dominated Grand-Am since its debut at Daytona in 2005. Track the action with live timing and scoring at Grand-Am.com.
Mustangs on the Entry List include:

Among the four Boss 302R1s (I've read that the R1s are the Grand-Am versions--regular Rs are SCCA spec and maybe The Mustang Challenge spec), I'd expect the #15 (Or will it be #16?) car of Foster/Maxwell to be the one to beat.
In the six practice sessions, seven vehicles did practice laps in under two minutes, given in descending order below: Mustang #16, 1:59.215 at over 107.0 MPH (shown as the Foster/Maxwell car by GARRA*) Mustang #52, 1:59.280 at over 107.0 MPH Mustang #59, 1:59.399 at over 107.0 MPH Mustang #11, 1:59.710 at over 107.0 MPH BMW #97 1:59.724 at over 107.0 MPH BMW #48 1:59.769 at over 107.0 MPH BMW #96 1:59.796 at over 106.0 MPH Camaro #6 1:59.900 at over 106.0 MPH But these were practice laps--qualifying this evening at 5:30 PM will be more indicative of the times & speeds these vehicles (and others) are capable of on the day before the race *Apparently, there is a Street Tuner class car already using the number 15, so that number may not be available for use on another car. That's what DISH 150/Speed shows this Sat at 12p PST. Is this the program the Boss is going to be on? (I liked the "Grand Am 24 hrs at Daytona" that precedes the start of the race. ;) ) |

I'm confused... isn't this the "Rolex Sports Cars Series Racing" 24 hr Grand Am with both GT & DP's?

Yeah...the Rolex cars will be televised this weekend. CTC will air 2/13. The rest of the airings are closer to the actual race dates though

So how did the Boss 302R do?
|
Still Racing...
over at 4:15pm ET...running strong so are the M3's and Porsches...Camaro creeping up...
See live updates at http://grandam.racersites-cluster.co...d=693&VN=19239 |
Still racing. The race started at 1:45 PM Eastern and lasts two and a half hours.

On the bumpier track sections, I wonder how much of a difference a IRS would make... just wondering. :fear: The M3's are pretty darn fast and consistent so far.
|
The M3's have the best lap times so far...one team actually broke the 2:00 mark with a 1:59. The E92 M3's are probably in my best guess are going to win it this year now that they ditched the E46 M3 with the S54 powerplant for the high revving V8. Pretty much removed the Mustangs hp advantage with the 5.0L Cammer motor and now the Coyote. Grand Am is going to have to rethink the restrictor plates on the Mustangs.

The best finishing Mustang was the #37 GT that came in 4th. The best finish by a Boss was the #16 at 49th (down 7 laps). Looks like they have some sorting to do, but still can't wait to see them tearing it up.
|
2 M3's 1st and 2nd with a 997 in 3rd...we will see how the rest of the season goes.

Camaro did better than expected. Looks like the Challengers aren't offering much of a challenge. :poke: Should have been a 'Cuda instead. Hope this series doesn't turn into a US DTM.

My pictures from the weekend didn't turn out as well as I hoped but here are a few.
Attachment 72508 Attachment 72509 Attachment 72510 Attachment 72511 Attachment 72512 The last picture unfortunatly shows the quality of welds in the new 302R. Looks a lot like our FR500C did. :( |

Love these 2010s :)
|
|
That rear coilover setup is sweet...the only other one I've seen so far that has adjustable ride height is the Roush/KW kit, but the springs are still in the same place as the factory spring perch, just they have adjustable height perches. This is a true coilover setup!

Nice :nice:
why does the race always confuse me? |
Awesome ! Thanks for posting those.
Notice that none of the cars have the splitter seen on the prototypes (302R and 302). |
Great shots Topnotch! Makes me miss living back on the East coast. VIR was my favorite track...

Man that white one looks great...probably my favorite one so far is the JBS Motorsports #37 car. Can't wait to see one in Race Red or Grabber Blue...someday maybe.

We are currently working on trying to get Grand Am's approval on EPAS but have yet to have it approved. |

man, I wish there was an option to get that L-hockey stripe for street going cars. Looks amazing.
Where does that livery come from (I mean vendor/frpp, not historically, haha)? |

All the vendors on the web make stripes that are similar, but off one way or another. I guess could just wait for the 2013 production to begin. |
I'm assuming the stripes come from Ford, as they're the same on all the cars
|
The car cool so much.
|
Why did ford not put a mustang in rolex GT and gm with the Camaro did?
