Have not detailed my Stang yet, but in the past I have always cleaned my motor by first using simple green, 2nd drying off everthing by hand and then going over all rubber etc. with Armor All. Then polish chrome and interior motor compartment paint.

I use Simple Green to clean and then 303 to treat/protect the parts. Don't think it will give you a real shiny finish as some other stuff on the market

I am a huge fan of 303 Protectant. It gives black plastic a semi-gloss finish. It is good on plastic, rubber, vinyl, and leather. I use it on my interior, vert top, engine compartment, tires, and trim (side views, etc.) I care more about the fact that it has spf 40 protection than the look it gives, but that is nice too. I have used it on the interior of my '98 GT for 7 years, and it has done wonderfully preserving it.

I've taken a liking to the Meguiars Tech Protect spray. It works very good and it's awsome on tires as well.

Any of the Mequires(sp) Products work great.I I used their metal polishing product on my chrome wheels, used their tire dressing (spray can) goes on the tire not on everything else.Plus it has a nice sheen to it.Used their window cleaner with a microfiber cloth.Wow.and finally I clay bar'd the whole car and used their new NXT wax and applied with a randon orbital polisher with a Black car results were like looking into a mirror. My money is on Meguiers whole product line.

I used meguiars spray also. It is the all rubber, trim, etc treatment stuff. I used it on the interior and it looks great. So I started to do all the outside black trim also. Then I had the hood open, so I used it there too. Looks great every where.

You wouldn't happen to be getting ready for the Ford World Challenge at Gateway this weekend, would you? Both of my brothers will have cars in the show, but unfortunately my '05 is not here yet. Good luck to you!

That really looks terrific, Jeff. Like what you did with the intake cover, too!

I would not advise using armor all. Armor all attracts dust as well as drys out the rubber over time causing it to crack. Not something you want on your air intake. Meguiars makes a product for rubber and vinyl that works well and does not attract dust or cause cracking.

I dont know squat about any of this stuff, I am just learning as I bought my first black car in a long time...

However, I used Armour All on EVERY part of my 99GT for 6 years straight.. never had a single problem.. in fact, there are pictures of my interior and engine when I sold it on my website.

I currently use the Meguiars stuff, and I am not happy with it. I like the dark "wet" glow on my rubber, plastic, etc the Armor All would give. The Meguiars seems to dry out, and leaves everything kind of flat looking.

Going to try Zainos next...

I stopped using armor all when the a friend of mine who is a detailer said that it attracts dust so he never uses it on a dash. Also, I don't know how long or how much use it takes but he said that it will cause the rubber or vinyl to eventually weaken and crack. Who knows, maybe he was wrong but it was enough to scare me away from the stuff.
Also, I used Meguiars rubber and vinyl cleaner on my dash and it still has a real nice shine to it 2 weeks later.

I have heard the same thing from various other people in regards to Armor All, so I just steer clear of it. I used Eagle One plastic protectant, doesn't attract dust and keeps everything shiny.

Armor Does Dry out and Fade, Since People Use it on a Black Convertible Top and it faded it over time. So I steer clear of Armor All

I have used Mother's Back to Black on my trim, but today, I used good old peanut butter, and it worked great. There is no wax on any of my trim at all. It is all gone!!! B2B never really got all of the wax off my trim anyway, but when freshly applied, it hid it pretty well. Afterwards, I wondered why I ever bought Back to Black in the first place.
