The title says it all. Can you wax new paint without causing swirl marks or should it be avoided? Is the paint cured at the factory due to the high heat baking or does it need time to cure and if so how much?

 

Factory cured paint is okay to wax right away. What are you going to use?

 

I have Meguiars Deep Crystal cleaner and polish. I plan on using NXT Generation for the wax. I'll start her off first with a Gold Class car wash.

 

start off by clay baring it then go to the wax.

I got mine right off the truck and it did not need claybar.

 

You might *think* that it does not need claybar as I thought. But I tried it out on one section, and it convinced me to do the rest. Slicker than owl s**t is one of my father's old sayings which comes to mind...

 

After I had the rear end repainted do to a collision I was told to wait two weeks. I have waxed the rear end once after the two week period and everything turned out fine.

 

Take a drive up, check it out and you make the call then.

I used NXT the 2nd day of delivery on an 07 black stang. It looks awesome...

 

I have never used a clay bar till this car.... It really seems to do a lot more than my cleaner waxes have in the past. I have been waxing cars for 25 years easy. I will not pass go from now on untill I have done the clay bar thing. It goes pretty quickly maybe an hour to do the stang. Costed me 11 bucks for the clay bar.

are u putting it on by hand or are u using an applicator pad/buffer? what pad are you using?

 

A brand-new car can be waxed/polished the day you pick it up. Everything is baked at very high temperatures. As suggested, it is best to start off with a claybar to pull any contaminants out of the paint (and there will be some)

 

I clay barred my '07 right after I took delivery. I couldn't see any reason to do it but when I started, I sure could feel the difference as I went along.

I used Zaino for the first time and although I was somewhat skeptical even though it came highly recommended, I have been very impressed with it. It takes zero effort to remove and looks great. I am sure there are other good products, but I can attest to the quality of Zaino.

It also worked very well on the 18" polished aluminum wheels!

 

ok.. so i got a meguiars cleaner wax and car wash shampoo. and i'm about to buy some claybar, high-tech yellow wax 26, and show car polish 7, and quick detailer.

ok... so being new to this taking care of a new car thing.. (almost all my cars have been POS's) i am only slightly aware of the process. let me know if i'm getting this right. unfortunately i was clueless to this process before i did 2 washes myself.. and used some terry cloth towels and i thought i noticed afterwards a very slight swirling glaze after i was all finished and dry. i may just be crazy and a perfectionist tho.. I just got the car on Sept 7th, but i want to claybar anyway just for the hell of it.

so anyway, let me know if this is correct:

Step 1: shampoo and dry
Step 2: clay bar w/ the included quick detailer
Step 3: cleaner wax
Step 4: polish with Show Car Glaze #7
Step 5: High Tech Yellow wax #26
Step 6: Quick Detailer if necessary

Questions I have are:

Is this the correct order of steps?

Do i re-shampoo again in between any of these steps?

Do I get the liquid Hightech Yellow or the paste high-tech yellow? I'm low on money so i plan to do it all by hand.

Also, how often does this whole process have to be done? How often can you just shampoo and dry? or use quick detailer or whatever?

For that #7 product that you are referring to, I hope that you are not putting Dupont #7 on as that is very old school and not appropriate for today's new car finishes...

Also, if you feel that you *have* to do the cleaner wax, do that before the clay bar as that will effectively strip off stuff as well, so it might strip off any benefits of the quick detailer...

Don't know what #26 is. If it is Zaino, its probably good. I like the Mequilars as it is readily available and just as good...

 

A lot of people say to re-wash the car after you do claybar to get the rest of the residue off. Some people call it a wasted step, while others swear by it, but it is really up to you.

so for the Meguiars HighTech Yellow Wax #26, do i go with Paste or liquid, or does it not make a difference??

 

I plan to use Klasse AIO and the Klasse Glaze. They seem to outlast many of the other products on the market which is more important to me than a show-car shine.
