vinyl stripe care?

just wondering if waxing is a problem with them at all.... also how durable are they... my birthday is coming up and pops want to get me the stripes.. also for all you do it yourself installs how long and hard was it to do....

Hey Louis.
I definately recommend you wax over your stripes. This will help protect them from UV rays and they will last longer. As for how long they will last, that depends on the quality of vinyl you get. Make sure you are getting 2mil vinyl for automotive use. Preferably 3M or Avery. Metallics last longer than solid colours.
Do a search on the forum. I posted some tips on how to install them if you are doing them yourself. What stripes are you getting (Lemans, side, Mach 1, etc etc etc).

you know i was just going to pm you....but i figured i would just post it .. also they are 3m for bob white... thinking of going with the 12inch either 2in gap or 4in not sure yet....

never done stripes before, played with some vinyl stuff... i have a great eye when it comes to installing stuff.. plus i figure if i keep it wet enough that will give me time to set everything up perfect...

just so you know these stripes are very difficult to install wet. The bumpers are a nightmare for someone who has never done them before. I'll try to find that old post of mine, the tips should help you out.

If they are computer cut to properly fit the stang, then yes, you should be able to install them wet. If they are just straight cut from stock then no, you'd have to install them dry.

yes i amsume they are cut by computer... as per the install instruction on the web page..... also sixty six do you have a link to where you picked up your stripes....

Baltimore Street Mods They just had a price increase, they were $109 last week, now they are $150 before shipping.
The owner of the site is online quite a bit and available for questions. Heck if you don't want to brave the install, you're not too far away, you can have him install them too!
But they really can be done by anyone, providing you have enough patience.

I put my stripes on and they were precut, so I was able to put them on wet. The biggest pain was putting on the front bumper. I also got mine through Baltimore Street Mods, and the owner, Rob, was very helpful. Especially when I was getting frustrated with the spoiler. :angry:

I also just got done installing my own stripes and if you're handy and patient it's a good option. I went with the 20 piece Lemans stripe kit from Graphics Express. All computer cut and went on real nice. They don't supply the front bumper stripes (other than the top piece) but I just bought some automotive grade Avery vinyl from a local shop and did that part myself. I'll have pics posted this weekend after I get my first coats of Zaino on.
I did the stripes over the course of a couple of evenings. DON'T RUSH! I did the hood one night, then the roof, then the rear end and front bumper. I think the hardest part is getting the reference lines perfect. If you install the stripes wet (which you can and should with the Graphics Express kit) then you'll have plenty of time to get the stripes lined up.
BTW, the stripes in the Graphics Express kit are tapered a bit. I was originally planning on going with the straight stripes but once I installed these I was very happy. They're 12"wide at the windshield and they go down to around 10.5" at the front of the hood. I highly recommend them!
