I got hit by a rock flying from one of those I despise so much no tag carrying dump trucks.
I have a small chip in my windshield- What do I do?
Can it be fixed now-its small?

Or if it enlarges, how do I get a mustang windshield replacement?

Any auto glass shop can repair that for you, and some places even offer the service free. Check your yellow pages for auto glass.

If you do it with Ford I thnk they can send someone to your house to reinstall the windshield. IF Ford doesn't replace them, private glass companies do house calls. Not very expensive.

Do a yahoo! yellow pages search for auto glass. There are several mobile glass companies that will come right to where your car is parked (whether at work or at home) to do the repair. With a small chip, you should be able to get it repaired, rather than replaced.

I, on the other hand, had a significantly larger "chip," which required replacing the whole windshield.

That stinks.

I had my GT for 4 days and got a rock from a motorcycle.
Got coverd by insurance. The paperwork list price was $375.00

I have had no luck in the past getting chips fixed.
They look as bad or worse before they were repaired.

Good luck. Let us know what happens. Post pics if ya get em.

Right now its like the size of a pinhead. BUT I know its there...

Also some SOB dinged into my door handle, and I have a one inch scratch on the drivers side door handle. I have touch up paint, but am not sure how to use it.

If its just a small round chip with no spiders (tendril fractures coming from it) you can get it filled with a vacuum-extraction process and your windsheild will be fine. And you'll probably not notice it.

If you have spiders, get the windsheild replaced.

That should be able to be fixed/sealed if its that small.
Also depends on where its at, if its right in your view, and annoying, I would get it replaced.

I had a small chip filled/sealed to prevent it from cracking/spidering. That was 6+ years ago and still is fine. But near wiper and outta plain view.

On the NJ Turnpike a piece of 2x4 got kicked up and bounced right off my windshield, left a small red colored chip; can't see it unless you really look for it but I know it's there Also same highway, a stone kicked up and put a chip in my driver side door about as big as the width of a key in length.

Clean the area of the chip with a degreaser to get any wax (if any's left) off. Dawn works fine. Apply a very thin layer of touch-up paint and let it dry. Then apply another thin layer letting that dry. Keep applying in small thin layers to fill in the chip. Re-apply wax when you're done. This is what I've done.

Insurance--Comprehensive coverage should be used, unless your deductible is so high that it's not worth reporting. I always go for zero deductible on comprehensive. It's not very expensive.

Here in Arizona, the windshield replacement capital of the U.S., glass replacement insurance is a separate part of the overall car insurance policy. It's like $6 every 6 months so if it's available - I'd get it.

If it's a small chip out of your line of sight when driving then get it
repaired with the Plastic insertion Trick.
Some Insurance Companies will pay for this with no deducible
charge on your insurance. Please Check.
Good Luck with it.

That bites. I would get it fixed before cold weather hits. I have heard storys of a small chip turning into something major when it freezes.
Good Luck

If its a small chip April, a glass shop can probably fill it in nicely so you don't have to worry about replacing the entire window. If you do this make sure you get a warranty on the repair. If it starts "spidering" take it back, then you may have to have the entire window replaced.

As for the touch up paint. Cleant the area you are going to touch up thoroughly to get any dirt or residue off of that area. If it is a larger circular shaped chip apply a small (start with a little paint, you can always add a bit more if needed) with the application brush. If it is a thin scratch, try using a toothpick to apply the paint evenly. Let the paint dry as directed. If you think you need to add a bit more repeat the steps until you are please with the results.

After you are done (let it dry for a bit), clean the section again and add a small amount of wax to that area.
