Ok, I heard washing our cars with dawn (dish soap) is a horrible thing to do...so what kind of soap should I use to get my car sparkiling (sp?)


BTW--I don't want the Mr. Clean AutoDry ...I want to dry my car myself!

 

CAR WASH SOAP ONLY!!!!!!! Dishwashing detegents have abrasives in them to break dirt off glass and plates, we don't care if we scuff our dishes up too much, clear coat on paint.........that's a whole different issue. I use Meguires soft soap or Eagle Ones car wash soap. I'm sure you'll get a few other inputs. I guess Zymols car wash soap is really good also.

 

OH, and don't use those car washing stalls with the brush at the end of the wand, you don't know what's in the bristles and the bristles themselves can scratch clearcoat finishes. The drive through car wash places with the rotating bristles or "soft pads" are also not good. My favorite story is about a guy who took his brand new Jaguar in and his antenna got caught and ripped out by the spinning bristiles and then spun the antenna down the rest of his cars paint. The "soft pads" can get dirt and grime caught in them. Washing by hand is the only way to go, no sponges, dirt and crap gets caught in the holes. Mits only and clean them regularly. Whew, I done.

 

If you wax the car regularly, drying it with a soft towel etc.. will actually make it shine much better as the wax is being buffed at the same time.

 

I recommend the Zymols car wash. It works great, smells awesome. Hard part is finding it. Usually have to go to autozone or something to find it.

 

I use my tongue it never scratches.

 

I find the new Meguires NXT car wash pretty good. Its just as good as the Gold class car wash but is much more attainable. I have YET to find the gold class carwash except in those starter packs you get at like costco. I even work at Advance Auto Parts and we dont even carry the gold class soap. That soap made my old White 90 vert beatiful (even for a 4banger :P

anyway, Meguires soaps are really good and I recommend them.

 

I use RAIN -X Car wash. It woeks great, and it looks like I waxed my car every time I wash it!!!

I have had a hard time finding NXT car wash. I just saw that wal-mart has it now

 

I saw the whole NXT line of stuff at a Shucks. I bought the wax. Nice results. When I get back for good I'll try out the soap.

 

If you are really a nut on how your car looks, you'll probably want to "choose" a brand and stick within that line of products.

I have found that when using the Meguires NXT wax and Mr. Clean Auto-Dry wash, that the wax was being stripped off in less than five washes.

Now I use Meguires products only since I like the NXT wax so much. I would suggest either: Meguires, Zaino, or Mothers lines of car care. Stay within the product line and do not "cross pollenate" by using a different wash with a different wax. Most of the time they are formulated to work with each other. Also invest in some good Chamois and Lint Free Waxing towels. I cannot tell you how many scratched up cars I see because someone "used a cotton t-shirt." You will drop some coin, but your results will ensure the paint looks good for years to come.

 

what if u use shampoo...i washed my camaro with shampoo cus i had no car wash soap ....worked fine and now its shinny..........yes i said camaro im a trader DONT WORRY I LOVE MY 87 PONY MORE

 

i'd still prefer to use a car-wash. I dont know if shampoo has any stripping agents in it or not.

DONT WASH YOUR CAR WITH DAWN, unless you are going to immediately wax it :P

 

This year I started using Griot's Garage products. It's all really nice stuff. Their car wash is amazing. It rinses much cleaner than Meguire's and leaves it looking like it was just waxed. http://www.griotsgarage.com/

 

Funny story. I have a neighbor that washed his Camry with dove. They paint started to chip in a few years.

 

I use the eagle one product. i mean... IT HAS A MUSTANG ON THE BOTTLE!

I just had to buy it!
Works well. Smells pretty good too.
