I'm guessing DA means dual action or the same as ROB - PC or equivilant. Also the pads mentioned were W's which I take are Meguiar's. If you used a PC did you ever use the higher speeds like 5 or 6? Anything more than medium pressure?

A few questions on Meguiar's products (I get lost in their numbers.) Guessing you started w/ a cutting pad and light cut compound, then a polish pad w/ a SMR and followed up w/ a finishing pad and top coat. If so, which corresponding Meguiar's products?

I use 3m and Menzerna stuff (among others) but am always on the outlook for others that show proven results. Yep I sometimes hang on Autopia but w/ as much activity that it gets it's sometimes hard to focus one any one product.

yes DA=Dual Action, and while removing scratches I always have it set to 5 but usually only use the soft polishing pads so as to avoid micro marring, but in this case I knew the car was going to take a lot of heavy cutting and without my rotary I decided to start with a cutting pad, using Meguiars M83 (which is more agressive of a cleaner than M80 is) and cranked it up to 6, this worked great but right as I was finishing the last section of the car the pad wore through and was a gonner. I then turned it down to 5 and did my next 2-3 passes with M80 and a soft polishing pad, then switched to the finishing pad and set it on 2 to apply the wax and sealant.

 

Dang!!!! That is gorgous. Who-da-thunk ever possible. What was your time line on this. How did you even know where to start. Nice write up on it. going to have to copy it. Then decifer it, too!!

 

the time line on this car was forever long because it was so bad to begin with and my rotary is broken. On a typical car and with a rotary figure an all day detail to get it done, perhaps two if the paint is bad and the second day is for things like the engine and interior. Ive been doing this for a long time now. If you need help decifering any of the write up please ask. Most of the products are Meguiars unless it says otherwise.

 

For glass, I bought some Zaino Z-12 glass polish. It worked wonders. I know you're not a Zaino guy, but we tried everything and nothing worked. Z-12 took it off without even trying.

 

This is what my Lightning needs a very badly. Good thing is my painter is going to detail it for my birthday coming up so I will be sure and post some photos as well.
