Polishing 2006 Fan Blades
#1
I have the new Fan Blades wheels on my 2006 GT and started looking for the correct product to clean/polish them with. There were several products that say they are good for any type metal wheels, but when you read the fine print they say not reccommended for coated metal. These wheels look like part of it is polished and part is painted or coated.
What is the best thing to use to make them really shine. My car is black and well polished wheels would really look good.
Any advise would be welcome.

Do NOT use anything abrasive like a metal polish (I know mothers sells alum/mag polish). These rims ARE CLEAR-COATED.
I haven't really tried many waxes so I can't really help in that regard.

the fanblade wheels are clearcoated so you do not want to use any kind of abrasive polish on them.
My reccomendation is to get them really clean and then give them a few coats of the same wax/polish you use on your paint.
I have my wheels a coat of zaino when I detailed my car.

I use Simply Z-Best Car Wax on my Bullitts. Much better than what you get at Pepboys Auto.

If I wax fanblades would it be OK to use Mothers power ball to shine? Has anyone tried this product yet?

Do not use the powerball. It is only intended for applying the metal polish for non-coated rims. I use it on my rims and it works pretty good, however, it does not remove product, it only applies it.
Your best best for clearcoated rims is just to clean them with soap and water and then just use some cheap wax on them. You should treat your rims the same way you treat the paint on your car, afterall, they both have the same clearcoat on them. You wouldn't take a powerball to the hood of your car would you?
When I had clearcoated rims, I used glaze instead of wax. It lasts longer and protects from UV rays. It gets applied the same as wax.

I know this is an old thread, but it applies to my question - can you use Meguiars Cleaner Wax on fanblades? Also, is the whole rim clearcoated or just the outer part? I have some discoloration and stains on the inner flat part under the brake calipers and I was wondering if it's okay to use cleaner wax there.

I'd go with a synthetic wax based on durability. Meguiar's #21 even NXT.
I used smartwax rim wax before and it worked good too.
