I was traveling down the local interstate today and was hit with a fairly large rock.
It came off the tire of a motorcycle of all things.
I expect that from a big rig or a rock hauler, but not an expensive Harley with saddle bags and the whole bit.
I called the dealer, went to the insurance company. Got a new OEM winshield coming.
My insurance guy says. "I spose you wouldn't consider getting that chip fixed would you"?
My reply. "Not on your life, direct OEM replacement for me."
Don't mind the dirt.
We have a lot of new home contruction going on and I can't leave my car outside for 2 seconds. It stinks.

Hey Mike, I doubt you could have had that "chip" repaired. I've seen some good repair jobs in my day, but I think yours would be a challenge. You did good by insisting on a replacement shield.
It's a shame you got road damage to begin with. I always give cars and trucks ahead of me some breathing room and I get nervous when they drift into the median. That's where rocks become projectiles! As you said, it's weird that a motorcycle picked up a rock.

I have a 5 car length minimum space rule I go by and have never had problems with debris hitting my vehicles.
This was a case of getting on the xpressway and merging into traffic.
I would think that a motor cycle would be realaively harmless.
I thought wrong.

Shame that happened. Coming off a motorcycle tire, well that's just plain bad luck.
The good news is that it wasn't your paint that got damaged.
I had the windshield replaced on my 95 GT, and couldn't tell the difference, except for one thing: the replacement was an OEM replacement, made by Carlite. Carlite made the original windshield as well - but the original windshield said "Ford" on it, and the replacement said "Carlite". Barely noticeable, and aside from that it was the same windshield, but nonetheless it was not exactly the same.
I see the '05 glass is still made by Carlite. Make sure your replacement has the Pony image on it near the mirror.

I got a huge ding on my hood about a month ago.....they took it out under warranty, because there were some other things they needs to paint anyway...scratches prior to delivery!!!..
It's all good now, other than it's been in the shop for 3 weeks now getting the struts done, interlock device (key keeps getting stuck), and replace interior door panel (all scuffed up)....missing it more every day!

That is terrible news about your windshield. How much is the windshield if you dont mind me asking for future reference.
Good luck with the repairs.

I'm getting it replaced tomorrow afternoon.
It's not costing me a dime. (GO STATE FARM)
I will check with the guy when he comes and see if he can't look up the price.
I spoke with them (glass company) this morning and I asked them how long it would take to get the wind shield.
She said. "Oh we have those in stock."
I said. "A 2005 mustang GT coupe with the pony in the top center?"
She said. "Yup"
I said. "Great"
I'll let you know how it goes.
