So I'm about to get into this Citizen On Patrol gig and one of the things they ask is to have some magenetic signs on your car as you patrol.

Will the sign scratch up/mar the paint job?

If so, guess I'll take my wife's car if I ever go on patrol.

Can't remember where I posted this so here goes my babbling.

Use to work at a sign shop making magnetic signs. So, there is something very important you have to remember. If the signs are not new, don't put them on your car. If they are new, store them flat, in the trunk and preferably in a plastic bag. The important thing to remember is they are MAGNETIC and was does a magnet stick to, bueler, bueler...... metal. So what do you think your magnets will attract when not stuck on the car....just about every little piece of metal in its path.

Generally overtime magnetics collect an insane amount of metal filings, dirt, etc. All of which will scratch the car each time you put them on and take them off. Each time you take them off of the car you should wash both sides, air dry and then store in a plastic bag.

ROFL! I wish!!!

Naw...its just when we "patrol" we're supposed to have them on the car we're patrolling with.

Thanks, adrenalin. I didn't consider the attraction on the back surface of the magnet. I was thinking more along the lines of dust already on my car between the sign and my paint.

Yeah, I wouldn't be putting them on my car, that's for sure.

I am just learning the great things about waxing, and I wonder if you are going to use the mag signs if you need to prep the doors with a couple of fresh coats wax? or something eles?

If your a true fanatic you could just go get two more doors and just swap them out when your on patrol....

I don't think 100 coats of wax is going to help junk scratching the car up :P

Even the dust underneath will scratch the paint a bit as you apply and remove the magnetic sign. You might want to make sure the area is clean before applying them.
