Dent Repair

If you have a dent or two that is driving you crazy, DO NOT GO TO A BODY SHOP for the repair. Not only will you lose the original paint but you will spend 3 times what you could have paid....
Recently I had noticed 3 little dents all within a 6 or 7 inch area just on the top of my rear passenger fender, just next to the trunk lid so it was really looking up. I contacted a body shop friend of mine and he gave me the number of a local guy to look at it.... I don't know if it was the "DENT WIZARD" or some such "franchise" guy like that but I called him and made an appointment. Went over on a friday morning and he looked at the problem and told me he could "probably" fix it for 75.00. The price was right since I knew a body shop would be more than a couple hundred. We procedded to remove the rear AMP and then the rear tail light. Once removed (I did the removal) he proceeded to drill a small hole (about 1 inch wide) and then inserted a long iron bar (looked like a fireplace poker but with a crooked/turned up end) into the hole and proceeded to tap so slightly the 3 dents. After a few minutes you could see the dents getting better but I was still skeptical. After about 30 minutes the dents were totally GONE, much to my satisfaction...We had some major lighting going on and you couldn't see squat of the dents. He gave me a little lecture on how really cheap the metal is on the new cars and how easy it is to dent. He also said that now that he had finished, the metal was now destressed and would actually be stronger in that area (not that I would recommend putting an elboy on it for any reason) and that if I actually had more dents it would be about 25.00 / dent. I almost wish I had more (ya right)....
I hope this will help others with this problem in the future. I know I saved a lot of money and still have factory paint. He finished by applying a fitting that was covered in a metal rush retard coat so that the bare metal from the drill would be protected.

I agree. I had Dent Wizard fix dings on my hood and I was amazed. The estimate from the dealers body shop was over $400, Dent Wizard charged me $90. The guy who repaired my dings told me that most of his work was done at new car dealerships. If no paint damage is involed I would call them. I wonder why a dealer would use paintless dent repair and not thier own body shop. I wonder.

That's because the dealer makes a small cut of the amount you paid (you said 90.00 and I paid 75.00. Dealer makes 15.00 or more per dent, you go away very happy. Some dealers use this and don't even tell the customer that they didn't really do it..... Information is money in may cases and this is a good example of that. The guy that did mine said the same thing. He usually works out of dealers shops but he did mine in his garage at home.

Agreed. Dent removers are better, cheaper, faster, and plus you don't have to leave your car anywhere. You get to see what they do to your car. I had a dent removed from just under my 1/4 window and can't even tell it was there.

I didn't go through a dealer I dealt with Dent Wizard directly. I should have explained my deal better. Dent Wizard charged me on a per panel basis. I had 4 dings on my hood caused by a stupid tree limb that fell on my hood. I felt the price was more than fair. 90 dollars to fix my hood and leave my factory paint intact was a bargain. I agree some dealers use these services and don't tell the customer. Thats so bogus. I am sure some sleazy dealership body shops quote a price, call paintless dent and have them do the repair at a price less then the body shop quoted and pocket the difference. The tech who fixed my car even hinted that he thought that happened alot. He told me that anyone who needed paintless dent repair should call them directly.

Ya, that is much better. Getting a whole hood repaired for 90.00 is great compared to what a BS would do. It's just a shame that the metal is so thin anymore that it can't take much pressure before it dents.

When they drill an access hole, they will insert their tools, then apply a corrosion additive and install a rubber plug. As long as it is done correctly, you should/will never have an issue.

I got a quarter size dent over the rear wheel and used Dent Wizard. They drilled a hole in the wheel well, pushed the dent out and then sealed and plugged the drill hole. Excellent job!
Cost me $100. Like everything else, the quality of the work depends on the individual doing the job

Glad to hear good results. I got nailed in the parking lot a few weeks ago, they hit the passenger door handle, and it pushed in a little dent just in front of it. Been meaning to call them, just haven't done it yet.
