I use a sponge myself. I've heard that dirt can get trapped in the mits a lot easier than sponges. Cotton towels you have to be careful with because the sewn edges are sometimes a thicker fiber and can actually scratch the clear coat. Just my.02

I've heard sponges can get debris stuck in the holes (dirt/small gravel) and scratch your paint. I use the sponge with the wash mit material sewn over it. I just rinse it before each new panel.

I use a small piece of microfiber towel. You might also consider 2 buckets of water: the usual bucket of soapy water and a separate bucket of pure water for rinsing the washing implement after washing a panel.

Yes a 2 bucket method or rinsing the sponge really well works to decrease the chance of debris getting ground in the finish

I have two mits... One is microfiber to handle the body of the car and glass. The other is a little stiffer material for the wheels and where the sheet metal wraps under the car.

Stadifer-

Make sure the stiffer material is not that abrasive. If you didn't know, our wheels are clear coated and painted just like the exterior.

I have some terry cloth towels that I use with a soft material on the edge to prevent any sorth of scratching. It can handle the junk on my wheels a little better then the microfiber from what I've seen .

That's why you cut them off.

From what I've read, make sure its 100% Cotton Made-in-USA towel. Its what I'm using on the new car and its been very good.

Microfiber towels are MUCH safer and better than cotton.

I use a sponge to wash the car and a chamois to dry it. I just throw the sponge away after two or three uses and get a new one. This way it doesn't pick up too much dirt. Also, I have a separate chamois for the car and the wheels. I feel like using the same one might cause problems with scratching.

I use a touchless car wash, no swirl marks yet and a black car. I try not to touch the car with anything, and so far no problems.
