So today at work all the birds in the area decided to launch an assault on me and my coworkers black cars. We lost. I was removing the bird droppings from the middle of my hood and there must have been something mighty abrasive in it because it scratched my hood up as I went back and forth.

My question is this: How do I buff the car? I have water spots from long ago, and now these fresh scratches. They look to be in the clear, just slight scuffs. Recommend any products? Any tips?

Try ScratchX from Meguiar's. I had some fine scratches in the clearcoat and it buffed them out completely.

here's a link to it:

Good luck!

If you are going to use a buffer I will give you the same advice someone gave me. DO not use a cheap buffer it will make a mess of the paint. If your going to do it by hand I really don't know what to tell you. I have the same type of scratches your talking about. I have tried everything scratch removing wax, Mothers Surface scratch remover, GS27 scratch remover, among other things and none of them made a dent in the scratches. Mothers actually made more light scratches.
