I've read a number of posts where people gave gotten UNBELIEVEABLE shines on their aluminum wheels somehow. What's the secret? I'd like to do the same thing to my 17" Bright Polished Aluminum wheels...

Your rims are clearcoated so other than using a good polish/wax, there is no trick. Treat them the same way you treat the paint on your car.

 

Just bought a wheel polisher thingamabob by Mother's. Haven't tried it yet. You attach it to a drill and polish the rims. Has anyone tried it? Is it any good?
Went out to garage...it's a Power Ball. I paid $24.99 for it at O'Reilly"s.

The powerball uses the metal polish which is not meant for clear coat rims. You should only use it on chrome/polished rims, not rims that have been treated. You will damage the clearcoat. I have the powerball and use it on my rims all the time, then again, my rims are polished aluminum.

I suggest you take it back to the store.

I use zaino on my bullitts and it really helps shine them up and keep the brake dust off

Mine are machine cast aluminum,won't work? Thanks! Guess I'll have $25.00 for something else Mustang related!

Just the polish or the whole multi step process?

If your wheels are the machined cast aluminum wheels from the factory, they have been clearcoated and shouldn't be cleaned with anything abrasive.

When I was done clay barring the car for the first time, I did use the claybar on the wheels as well. They did pick up a lot of grime. I hit them with some Z5 and Z2 as well.

 

Thanks adrenalin and Galaxie! Hubby says we'll keep power ball for other vehicle rims and keep cleaning Stang's by hand. Thanks for saving me from disaster, I appreciate the good,sound advice.
