Which tire puts the most tread to the ground?
I've been doing a ton of research on Tirerack and it seems to me that the BFGoodrich Sport Comp 2's are the "widest" tires out there. What I mean is that they seem to have the widest tread width out of any tire in every size that I look up. Tirerack shows their tread widths to be only about 0.2 inches less than the section width for each size. Are there any other tires that are going to look as big as the Sport Comp 2's or are they my best bet?

I am going to upgrade to either 255/45/18's or 275/40/18's, but I want to go for one of the biggest available tires in whatever size I end up choosing. I'm probably going to just go with the 255/45/18's since 275's are pushing it for an 8.5" wheel, plus the sidewall height looks too small for the wheel wells.
My point is that all 255/45/18 tires are not actually 255 mm wide. Some run bigger than others. For example the Pirelli P-Zero's look much smaller than the Goodyear Eagle GT's I have and they were both 235's. My 235 Eagle GT's are probably wider looking than a good amount of 255's out there. Tread width is 9.1" on the 235 Eagle GT's and the stock 255's on a 2014 Mustang GT only have a tread width of 9.4". The BFG's in 255/45/18 put almost 10" of tread to the ground, so they're technically wider even though they are still a 255. Sorry for the long post!
