Yeah, I didn't get the Pace Car one either. That was the thing in that day. I'd paint a '79 Fox those colors alone, just not have the ponies or Mustang or Pace Car emblems. The color combo is sweet, IMO.

Nothing wrong with that, that was one of the best Ford engines ever made. Damned near bulletproof.

I would never burn my pictures and I am not embarrassed that it was a Mustang II. I actually liked my Cobra II a lot when I had it and it did have the V8. I learned how to drive a stickshift in my aunt's 1976 Mercury Bobcat (Pinto clone).

 

I like this picture! It still looks good today! If it were my personal car though I would not want the MUSTANG letters on the hood.

Mustangs have been in my family since 1966... But the mid to late seventies produced some cars that had to be more economical and therefore "not as sporty" as the original lineage.

But Mustangs none the less...

Its so funny to me that everyone knocks the IIs for their anemic horsepower when the first foxes were just as gutless, and heavier. Not to mention the fact that EVERY manufacturer was figuring out smog equip and NO cars of the era made good horsepower. Hell the ferraris of the time would get walked by much more average automobiles today, but no one seems to remember that. Lets all hate on the king cobra for being a not very powerful muscle car with ridiculous styling. But hey those trans ams sure are sweet! Lets hate on the Ghias, because who wants a luxury muscle car? and then lets drive home in our expensive heavy GT premiums.

Most of the hate on IIs come from people who don't know anything about them, have never driven one, and are too close minded and ignorant to even give try to understand. It's easy to jump on the bandwagon. Whatever. I'd rather have my II than an overweight S197.
Thats not to say the S197 isn't a fine car. I'm just tired of arrogance and ignorance consistently crapping all over the II. Cars are a lot like people, and like people, they offer a lot to learn and live by.

Maybe if people were a little more humble and understanding, the average joe wouldn't look at every person driving a souped up mustang like he was a jackass.

that list is full of fantastic mustangs. the King Cobra, the 79 Pace car, the classy as hell Sprint.. This article just disappoints me in Jalopnik.

 

For me mustang 2 hate is purely cosmetic, speed has nothing to do with it, engines can be swapped. Just not a fan of how any mustang 2 looks

 

The IIs are just the red headed step child, Arin. Don't defend them too much, people just will bash more.

I have a Honda Pacific Coast. You want to talk red headed step motorcyles, these are they. I won't give up my PC800 easily. She's got issues, and I'm tryin' to get her running right again... tis a hard process... but the quirky plastic covered thing is just that cool to me, that I don't care what those Harley, BMW, or whatever else riders think, she's mine, and I like her. Y'all can take a flyin' leap.

Besides, show me another bike you can stuff beer and ice into a trunk(!), and when done, pull the drain plug and she's ready to be used as a grocery getter, no mods needed, straight from the factory.
