Heck, here in Atlanta,Ga. everyone is doing 85 to 95mph on 70mph roads. It is just like NASCAR here. Guess all the "necks" are big fans and picture themselves as "Little E" . If you don't drive something fast you get eaten up and blown away. The cops are non existant and will not pull you over when everyone else is doing 85-90mph. So if you want to drive fast come on down here and join the club. I'm talking about Highways 285/85/75/400/ and 965. Take your pick. Drive like a NASCAR champ and not get stopped

I received a radar certified time slip from a nice CHP officer here in California a few years back, my trap speed was 92 mph in a 55 mph zone.
"Sorry officer but I had to go that fast to pass those five cars in the space available" . . .
It cost me $372.00 and since I was more than 15 mph over the posted limit I was not able to attend traffic school to keep it off my record. It's my understanding that here, anything over 100 mph is a misdemeanor, anything under is an infraction.

This guy was pulled over by a laser gun, so I want to take this opportunity to dispell a myth: There is no effective detector for a laser gun.. No such thing. It doesn't matter if it can detect a laser or not, because laser travels at the speed of light and by the time you're alerted you're clocked. The only effective safeguard against a laser gun is a laser BLINDER. These devices are only illegal in Virgina, just like radar detectors. The only federal offensive when it comes to traffic enforcement countermeasures is jamming a radar gun, not detecting it. If ya don't live in VA, you're good to go. It's perfectly legal to own and operate a radar detector/laser blinder in all of the other 49 states.
Here are a few links to QUALITY radar detectors and laser blinders. Some of these devices are expensive, but if you want the protection, they are worth it. I personally have an Escort 8500XP Passport and six laser blinders on my car, 3 front 3 rear.
Links:
Radar Detector/Laser Blinder Store
Speedzonezs - An Honest Radar Detector/Laser Blinder Tester Site
Keep in mind that a cop can always pace you and try to clock you the old-fashioned way.

Heh, what kind of states do you all live in? I got pulled over doing a 118 in a 60 on Interstate 5, and only got a ticket. A big ticket ($320) but just a ticket. In fact in the first 9 months I got my new cougar back in mid 2000, I got 5 speeding tickets and one HOV violation, and there is no talk of courts or licenses being pulled, you just pay the fine and go on with your life. And they aren't MISDEAMEANORS, they're just simple traffic tickets, you pay off which disappear off your driving record in 4 years. We have no points system in Washington state. BTW even with all those tickets, I'm only paying $1175 to insure my new GT for a full year. You gotta love the west coast. This is why I love the west so much, tons of big open 10 lane freeways. And btw, good radar detectors aren't just good, they're darn good. My escort passport 8500 x50 which cost me $275 gives me a TON of time to slow down before I even see the cop. Saved me from atleast 4 more tickets.
Oh, and I should tell you guys my best story to demonstrate how Washington is. I had just gotten back to the Seattle area from medical school. In the years I was away, I had let my Washington driver's license lapse. I got back, and a friend of mine up on the Olympic peninsula wanted me to come over. I decided to risk it and drive. I was driving on US-101 and saw absolutely no cops, but they did have the visible "speed monitored by aircraft" sign on the freeway. I never took that one seriously, as I thought there was no way there were state patrol aircraft up there checking speeds on the freeway. I didn't think it was feasible or possible. Boy was I wrong. 5 minutes later, I get pulled over by the State Patrol. The officer tells me that I was clocked by an aircraft at going 82 in a 60. I was shaking, too stunned to know what would happen to me next. I told the officer that I was back from med school, that I didn't have a current license because I had been gone, didn't have current insurance, and all I had to show him was my student ID card, and that I had just come back to town and was going to visit a friend. I thought I was going to jail. The officer came back, excused me on the driver's license, excused me on the lack of insurance, excused me on the over 20 miles over the speed limit, and wrote me one simple ticket for doing upto 10 miles above the speed limit. Then he told me, when you get back home son, get all your paperwork updated, get the new license and insurance. He then said WELCOME HOME, and nice car! God bless Washington.

I'm from NJ and I got tagged last year for doing 62 in a 40 but the cop (city of hammonton) wrote it out for 52 in a 40 and I went to court and talked to the DA and got it bumped down to a moving violation which means no points but i did have to pay $150 plus $30 court cost's. If I had just plead guilty it would have only been $77 but that mean's 2 points on the licence and in NJ that would have been to much to take on my insurance! Got caught and accepted my ticket and have been clean ever since.
