There are three audio systems offered on the 2005 Mustang. Base models get an 80-watt system with a single-CD player and four speakers. An optional 500-watt system includes two gigantic subwoofers mounted in the front doors, premium speakers in the rear and a six-disc, in-dash CD changer with MP3 capability.

An even more powerful 1,000-watt Shaker Audiophile system adds dual 500-watt subwoofers in the trunk. Computer-aided engineering was used to help package a bass chamber with the same volume as the old unit while leaving more room for luggage. The new subwoofers, mounted to the right side of the trunk, use about a third of the space of the previous system offered in the Mustang.

Will you be ordering the Base, Mach 500, or Shaker 1000 audio system?

I would have to go with the big boy, the 1000 but you could get a better system in the aftermarket.

Shaker would be fun, But I'd imagine the cost of it will be insane.

I'm all for the 1000, but realistically probably interested in the price of the 500.

I'm with everyone else...I think the 1000 would be great, but realize that I could get a similar system aftermarket for much less than $1,295.

I'm on the same page as everyone else. I'd prefer the 1000 but if its really just 2 additional subs for $1300 I think I'll pass. I left the factory head unit in my current car and had the 4 speakers replaced with Alpines and added an amp and trunk sub for under $800.

The radio looks soooo plain. I don't know why they didn't do something try to make it look better.

Just a friendly suggestion?

Maybe put the additional costs of each option? So it's easier to decide without lookin' all around for it.

$1200 for the Shaker 1000 doesn't really scare me, as long as the thing will work for 5 years. The subs being packaged where they are is a bueno thing for me. Worth the money to have the extra thump in a space conscious package.

Providing, of course, that it's as good as this has been for me.
While it thumps plenty, it's a space hog. Half the usable trunk is taken up by my box. That Shaker 1000 one is plenty coo wid me.

I picked the mach 500. I don't want to have too loud of a stereo to hide the rumble of the engine. But who knows it'll be my first stang ever, I might go for the whole shebang and get the 1000???

If you read this it says the Shaker500 is a 6 cd/mp3 in-dash changer

My time will be split. Some of it listening to tunes, the rest listening to the rumble B)

when its tune time it will be with a 1000!

I agree that the radio has a subdued look to it but, IMHO it is so you are not distracted from that driver info center (ie retro cluster) :w00t:

The Mach500 should be good enough....
the 1000 is way too much overkill for me... I am not into the "boom, boom" pounding sound system anyways.

I am sure it is a pricey option anyways...

You sure you're not going to back her up in a Timmy's parking lot and let the funky beats flow Steve??

Dano,

if I do crank up the tunes at Timmy's it will be something like Slayer or Pantera so that the ricers have nightmares...
