Ok guys/gals.

I've got a '66 coupe hardtop that I have had for 6 years.

It is Carolina car and was brought to Michigan in 1990.
It is in nearly perfect condition.
61 k original miles.

I'm at the local 4th of July parade with my '05 and I have a 1/2 dozen or so pictures of my '66 with me. An elderly gentlemen starts talking to me about my '05 and sees the pictures. He perks up and asks me what year. I told him and he very exitedly says "I have been lookin for a '66." He asked how much and I told him it's not for sale.
He said how bout we start at 10 k. I said "well, money does talk." Long story short.

I'm not looking to sell her. But for the right price........................?
I do not have a job. I do not need the money.......yet.
The car has been appraised at 10k.
Should I drive up the price until he says no more. I don't want to jip the guy, but if he wants it, shouldn't he have to pay for it?
I hate to lose her, but I have completely neglected her this year cause I'm having too much fun with the'05. I have put a total of 25 miles on her.

Sell or not to sell?

Any input is greatly appreciated.

If the car is appraised at $10k, you are not using it and can bear to be parted from it, why not?

I agree with James. If its the right price and you can live without it go for it. If you are really thinking twice about it and would miss it dearly then I would say no. You seem to be a bit hesitant so I would really sit down and run over the pros and cons of selling it and keeping it. Thats how I make a tough decision.

I wish you good luck

I might have second thoughts if it were a vert or a fastback since their values can appreciate and you can always find a dreamer who will pay top dollar. Lets face it, other than receiving compliments and having it as a trophy, the old Mustangs couldn't carry the jockey straps of the newer models. Efficiency, perfomance, handling, and comforts are not the classics' strong points. The other side of the coin though, is a realistic positive resale value.

I agree with everyone's opinions. I think you should really mull it over with yourself for a few days and try to decide whether or not you'll wish you hadn't sold it. If your not driving it and somewhat neglecting it, then it may be worth selling. So, just do some heavy thinking about it. But don't base your decision on what anyone here says. YOU need to make the decision that's right for you and only you. Good luck!

I value all of your opinions very much.

I'm leaning toward not selling it.
My oldest daughter (24) wants it so bad someday. I would love to will it to her or just flat out give it to her. On the other hand, like many here have said, if its just gonna sit, why not?

I payed $6,500 six years ago, it's worth a solid 10 IMO, so if I hold on to it for nothing other than an investment, I'll be doing ok. Ya think?

And I do love the dang thing, heck the A/C even works.

Thanks again all.

I think you just answered your own question. All of us have gotten rid of one thing or another that we later regret, and I get the feeling that this would be a huge one for you.

Just my 4¢ (inflation, y'know)......

I thought about trading in my '99 and using it as a down payment on an 06 but I know I would have kicked myself had I done that. It sounds like your 66 is loved by the whole family. In this case from what you have said, it really sounds like it would be a not so wise decision to sell it.

This pits a new twist on things. From your original post it sounded like you were leaning toward selling it, but I think now that you've told us that your daughter wants it I've revised my opinion. Fix it and let her have it.

How about this for an idea... you let me have it for a while and see how much you miss it then.

Yeah I think you alredy answered your question, plus how would your daughter feel if you sold it, when you knew deep inside she adored that Mustang so much.

It's gorgeous. If it's in good condition, as you say, I don't really see a reason to get rid of it. It brings you no troubles, just the pure fun of owning a '66 Mustang. To me, 10K sounds low. Over here you could easily sell it for more than twice that amount.

And you say "I hate to lose her". I think that sums it up. Don't let her go.

Thanks for all your input.
I do love it.
I have had 6 mustangs since I was 16.
I lost a '66 in an accident and a 64-1/2 in a fire. It was the 7000 + mustang ever built.
I was devistated when I lost those cars.
I tried an LX and an 80's gt and they weren't the same as the classics.
I can't see myself without the classic.

Thanks again.
