Mustang II's looked like scaled down 72-73 Torino fastbacks. The Torinos looked much better though.

I'v ewanted to build up a custom Mustang II for years. Light cars with excelletn suspensions and room for a lot of engines. Build quality is what you make it now, so that's a non-issue. I'd build a convertible and change a lot of the proportions to fix what I found wrong with them, like I'd move the front wheels forward 4" and up 4" as wellas the wheelwells to get rid of all that sheetmetal above the wheels. I'd also do the rears 2" higher and sink the bumopers back into the body a bit to make them more flush, while retaining the identity. basically an optimised MII:

I did that photoshop about 10 years ago just to see what it might look like.

I also like this car from the Mustang II site:

That Mustang II is soo badass.

These things are incredible fun due to their weight. Even with the relatively low power stock fox EFI in mine, it loves to get tailhappy when I romp on it. They're really quite agile too. I hope to start autoxing mine this summer

that being said the cologne 2.8 V6 was pretty sweet when people souped em up across the pond, though not many of those parts make it over here. Its also directly related to the 4.0 in rangers and 05-10 V6s. I've yet to see someone complete the swap but its a pretty nifty idea.

They didnt have much power stock (I think mine originally had somewhere around 105hp lol) but the gearing in the manual trans was ridiculous. 4.4:1 first gear or something like that. I think later mustangs were closer to 2.8-3ish. It wasn't fast, but it wanted you to think it was

and those are definitely the original wheels I had. Mine were rusted too hell though lol.

There are actually folks who make fiberglass tucked bumpers and roll pans (for the rear) these days. I think they're only like $100 or so as well. And thanks, ironically, to the hot rodders who cut these cars up way back when, theres actually a decent aftermarket for the front suspension. the rear doesn't have as many options. Theres a few choices for shocks, and either stock, HD or custom when it comes to springs.

Interesting that it has the 1974 only nose with the deeper grille and header panel and also the parking lamp bezels with the horizontal bar.

I am actually lusting after this now... My 2010 Mustang is the closest thing you can buy to what represents a Torino fastback today.
