I'm surprised no one has bid on it yet. That car is wll worth the money. One of the best looking Saleens produced and with that low price and rarity, it will be worth a lot more if it goes up on the block later on. Notice how many were made-- 10.

The power has nothing to do with it. Its the rarity. While you may spend $10,000 less now for a Cobra, when you roll the two side by side up on an auction block the SA-20 is going to bring a lot more. Its a collecter car and a beautiful one at that. Only 10 of these were ever made compared to 5,664 2004 Cobras.

These will bring in a lot of money in the future.

Schmalex, did you ever find out if Blip does have the only automatic one?

Andy, if I cared how much it will be worth in the future, I would be interested in buying Lexus or more expensive Toyota because no car holds value like Toyota does (not counting muscle and classic cars).

Okay, thats way off topic since this is about a Saleen. But anyway I checked out the "PIN Retained Value." The company with the highest retained value is actually Honda with an overall average of 5 out of 5. Toyota is at an average of 4.5 out of 5. (Data from JD Power and Associates)

This discussion is about Mustangs anyway so

Anyway I PM'ed blip to get more info on his SA-20, I'll let you guys know as soon as I get a response

Got a response from Blip:

Yep, it's the only one. I had to convince Steve Saleen to make the custom switch as
they had already gotten the 10 white 5spd GT vert donor cars when I made my request for the A/T one.
It took them several weeks to find a white A/T donor GT to use for my build as the model run for 2003 had ended.
The SA-20s were built from end of model year 03 cars.

For a couple of weeks I wasn't sure if I would even get an SA-20 until they found a donor in Northern Calif.
Pretty cool huh? This is truly a rare Saleen and a stunning one at that!

I know its off topic, but I was trying to tell you that price of car in 10 years or so isn't that much important, because most of people don't keep cars that long.

One line of eBay link said and I quote "Original cost of this car was about $60,000." Now he's selling it for $40,000. So in 2 years price went down by $20,000. I don't even wanna know how much it will be worth in next 2 years.

It all depends on the market and demand. If Blip sold his I think he could get close to what he paid. Its a complete collecters car that will be worth more than the MSRP in time. Plus that was the starting bid at $40,000, not the value of the car. Items that are that high priced usually sit for a while.

IMO its a bad idea for this seller to be selling the SA-20 on ebay anyway. He should take it to Barrett-Jackson, he would have a much better chance of getting a better price. The only downfall is that B-J takes a 3% commission. That was last year though could be more now.

Just checked NADA.com. While there were no Saleen SA-20's listed the S-281 E is. The are relatively the same price so its a pretty fair comparison. NADA states a 2003 S-281 E list MSRP $64,504. High retail which is excellent condition (which most Saleens are) is $55,600. A difference of $8,904. Really not bad at all for a vehicle like that. Take into account the rarity of the SA-20's compared to the S-281 E and you can see the SA-20 is probably worth a bit more.
