And I'm also very well aware of laser and the pointlessness of having a laser detector to tell you you're already caught.

I agree, most LEOs do not use the instant on function and lasers will nail you.

Since this thread is still active I'll share that I just picked up a used Escort Passport 8500 on CL for 100 bucks, I don't think it's a bad deal.

Looking into getting a mirror mount for it. Does anyone know the stem size of the mirror?

It may not be laziness but their Department's protocol.... just saying.

In either case, the point of having a good detector is that it can pick up on when they pull the trigger on the cars ahead of you.

and that is where they do save you if you are paying attention, when those cars a couple miles ahead get pinged you will get an alert with the V-1, now if your just running down the road counting on the detector to save you and there is no traffic ahead and your not watching to catch them visually before you get in range (out here in Texas), you deserve to get rung up for being stupid

It is a traffic infraction, not sure what the current cost and fines are, but since it was along the same lines of a stop sign or traffic lght in fines amount, I would say between 100-150 bucks. A motor carrier operator (CDL) can suffer much more severe penalties, but I am not aware what they currently are.

I had a Passport 9500ix, Redline, and now I have the Passport Max mounted on a blendmount. They each have saved my bacon numerous times. The key is to follow behind a speeder and to catch those instant on's that The Arbiter was talking about. Laser/Lidar is a whole other ball game though. Luckily, Pennsylvania can't use it.
