Ello, ello!

I have the opportunity to buy a gorgeous 2010 GT Premium @ 10K miles with every option, plus a few tasteful mods such as Hurst Shifter and Magnaflow AB for about $24K. I’m also looking at a 13 GT with a total price of ~$35K.

I’m not only looking at a large price gap here, but a performance one, as well. From what I’ve read here, there are two schools of thought:

  • Get the 5.0
  • Get the 4.6 and SC it

What are some considerations to take into account assuming I could afford either? Thanks for looking.

no one wants to touch the 4.6 vs 5.0 argument? I'll stab at it. Look, 4.6's can put out an incredible amount of power, and you probably wont "need" a 5.0 to modify. But, I love a naturally aspirated motor as it comes from the factory, because you have warranty, and piece of mind that nothing has been messed with. It is as it were intended by the engineers. I say go with the 13, and keep mods simple, less headaches down the road. Although, many of us on here are never content with "enough" and end up pushing whatever motor they have to higher limits. Headaches are the reason forums like this thrive, for some reason we all want headaches

I had a similar issue. I was thinking I could negotiate a 2010 down to the 22000 range but no dealers wanted to move. I found a 2012 with 6000 miles on it for 26000. It has all of the options except glass roof and navigation. I was trying to stay on the low side of my budget but couldn't pass up the deal. That was 4 months ago. I am sure you could find a similar deal on a 2012 now. I think in the 24 range I would say go with a 5.0. If it can be had for less, I know I would have enjoyed the 4.6 almost as much as the 5.0. The 2013 was too rich for my blood. I did consider a v6 2013 but the sound of a v8 can't be beat. Good luck with your choice! I don't think either car could be a wrong choice.

What it really comes down to I suppose is what you're using the car for.

Ie is it a daily driver/only car? If so I'd buy the 5.0 hands down. You still get the power, but you also get the warranty and all that. But if its just a toy car and you're okay with the inherent 'risks' of things like forced induction I'd boost the 4.6. There's nothing like the roar of a V8 with the scream of a supercharger. I think that a boosted 4.6, even if its only making about the same HP as a stock 5.0 is more 'fun' when it comes to seat of the pants feel.

But there's so much more to consider than just the engine too. The 13 has a nicer interior, which body style do you like best, etc etc.

Thanks for the thoughts, guys.

I've definitely been pushed over to the 5.0 camp, but have immense respect for the 4.6 and its potential. Looks like I'll be working on the '13 GT. I'll let y'all knwo how that goes haha. Hopefully have a "new owner" thread with my name on it soon.

You can also get some nice GT500s in the 25-35K range. 2007-2009, maybe a 2010 or 2011. You might even be able to buy it with a warranty. Just throwing it out there.

Spend a little more and get a Boss 302 for around 42K.

Thumbs up

That's what I've decided - found a nice 2009 GT500 in black with 12K on the clock. Tasteful mods -

Pullied and Tuned by VMP Tuning, Griggs Super-Street Suspension with Coil-overs, Torque Arm and Watts-Link, Magnaflow Exhaust, Nitto Drag Radials and Navigation.

I did heaps of research on this suspension package. Supposed to turn these into Porsche killers. Will check it out this weekend.
