Anyone else miss some of the older wheel styles? I really like the wheels on the gold GT350 in the gallery section. Really nice.

I miss wheels with recessed faces. These days, the wheel faces are almost always flush. I also like the machined aluminum look, which you don't see much anymore. I'm hard pressed these days to find a wheel style I like in the aftermarket, they are all too extreme.

The reason you don't see the deep dish (without a corresponding fender side protruding of the wheel/tire, that is) is that they are constantly trying to improve handling and packaging. The mounting of the wheel as far out as possible, side to side, gives a better geometry to put more room for the engine, for example, or increase arm lengths. This is why they're +45 offsets on the S197s versus the +35 of the previous SN95s, and even less offset in other cars/models.
