New Shelby
#1
Now I guess that most of the Mustang world is waiting for the new Shelby, I could care less. Shelbys are not the answer to whats new in Mustangs. When Ford introduced the fact that Shelby was going to build a Mustang again the parts for the car were already on the shelf. Everything the the Shelby has on it came on other Ford cars before, except for maybe a few badges. If Ford wanted to introduce a new Bad-to-the-bone Mustang it could have done it already. Lets start with the engine, A 5.4 with a blower.Ford makes two versions of this already. Transmission, 6 speed manual-got it, a 6 speed auto-got one already. Wheels, come on, those wheels look --------. Strips- GTs have them.
The only thing you'll be paying for is SHELBY. And for most Mustang people that word is enough.
Shelby only made 2 good cars when he was making cars for Ford, The 271 HP GT and the AC Cobra, The rest of his cars are just Ford parts been knock offs with his name on it and a Higher price tag. Now you look at the "Chip Foose" mustang. Thats a car to pay $10,000 more for.

It has the Shelby name but it is all SVT, regardless of whatever has been said.
For anyone that's remotely familiar with the high end performance vehicles would know the GT500 is more than the answer. Some research on the subject matter might help in adjusting your perspective.
Perhaps you might be enlightened if you consider the TMS Project Car and what it would cost to have the upgrades to match what the GT500 will cost. Yes, the Shelby name will add a couple of thousand dollars, so what? Ford could name it the new Yugo and it would still sell.

My perspective is just fine on the Shelby, People are stupid to pay $100,000. for a 68 Shelby and are just as stupid to pay the $40.000 for a new Shelby. I have reserched the car and find it not as good as a Roush or a Steeda. The name will sell the car and it will be fast but that don't mean its worth the price. If you took the engine out of a Ford GT and put a 6 speed auto behind it from a navigator you would end up with a better performing car than what the Shelby is going to be.
I started with my first mustang in 1969, Mach 1 428 super cobra jet, And have resrchered mustangs ever sence. I dought you could tell me anything about mustangs that I don't already know, My perspective is just fine.

That would be MY perspective and YOUR truth

Your right, there is as much engineering in the Roush and Steeda as the Shelby.
Even Steve made a 5.4 Blown Mustang years ago. Shelby is just an old fart that got mad at Ford a long time ago and quite. He went to GM before he went to Ford about the AC Cobra and GM turned him down.
Now let me say something about the Shelby. People are going to pay $40-45 thousand for the new muistang and in a couple years its going to be worth $80,000. Thats just a fact. That also don't mean its worth it. But I guess if you double your money, its worth it. I would bet that the Saleen would smoke the Shelby.

Perhaps it slipped your mind but the prices of the Q and Stage 3 might be slightly higher than what you already think you know they are.
It might be a mystery to you but there are differences between the stock 4.6 engine designed and engineered to handle up to a certain level of performance and the 5.4 which is designed and engineered to handled the advertised performance.
Another point of interest you might be interested in is the stock clutch and 5-spd vs the clutch which can handle the 6-spd and the higher performance.
So, if paying $40K for the GT500 is stupid, what is your researched expert opinion on paying $50K+ for a pimp my ride Mustang GT, providing the paint matches?

Mr Mstng
I don't see you telling anyone else about there spelling.
Bullitt as much as told me I didn't do any research and somehow my perspective needed adjusting. Im soory when confronted I respond. I didn't say anything about there perspective or that they may need some enlightenment. But then I must have an attitude?
I came here for some friendly talk about Mustangs, But because I have an opinion about Shelby that doesn't match what you people think of him then I become some evel Chevy guy. If thats what you want then you'll also get it back.
Shelby is going to mae a 400 HP 13 sec blown 5.4 that cost to much that is also made from parts that in Ford s parts been already. I was offered the first one in Houston area and I turned them down, No thanks. Now when Ford makes a Cobra again, I'll get one of those, But not a Shelby, Have any of you guys ever talked to that Jerk, I have, what an egotistical -------------. His AC cobra was at the time the baddest car on the planet.

Well, let's see, you've got all of 8 posts, and most of them are about how bad the Shelby is. Rather than participating in an intellgent discussion that already exists pertaining to the Shelby, you just completely dismiss it, and come off as rather arrogant.
If you don't like the Shelby go buy a Ford GT if you have the cash.
BTW, I have met Mr. Shelby. He was very nice to talk to. I may not agree with everything he has done over the years, but he has my respect for what he has done.

The only reason the current 60-era Shelby's are pulling as much as they are is because they are rare and a bunch of Baby Boomers who have more money than brains want to relieve their glory years.
The "fact" of the matter these days are VERY different. The Muscle cars of yesteryear were something completely new and different, unlike anything else in the market. Times have changed and there is plenty of indirect competition. In 40 years, there won't be nearly the romanticizing of the GT-500 as compared to the "good old days."
No, I have a different opinion of the future value of GT-500's in the next "couple of years." At least I have the common decency NOT to claim my worthless opinion to be fact.
