I'm trying to get some information from people that have had their Mustangs repainted at body/custom shops. I plan on keeping my car and I will be willing to spend a pretty penny on a new paint job. I'm planning on keeping it the same color. I have heard that you can't get a non-factory paint job that can compete with a factory one. Advice and opinions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Same here. I am also in the process of renewing my 89GT conv. Any advice on what to ask or look for when researching paint shops...please.

I'd like to know that if I spent $4k or so on a great paint job it would last awhile, not peel, chip if you looked at it funny, and no orange peel finish.

Don't go to those places like Mako or peach painting. My friend manages a place that does body work on BMW's and Mercedes only, she takes pride in their work, and they are far from cheap. Im sure a couple/few grand would get you a great paint job with a great warrenty from somewhere like that.

I was going to talk to the local (Benz/BMW/Lexus) dealerships for information on who they use. Thanks for the info. I'll be willing to spend a few grand on it.

factory paint jobs aren't that great. i see a lot of them with orange peel, and they are also very thin. I don't think they use very many coats, whereas an aftermarket paint job, spending a few thousand you'll get a really good paint job.
