I am new here but I have a problem with my 2000 Ford Mustang V6 3.8L. When I take it out of park and put it into drive, it won't move, but when I put it into lower gear and then into drive, it functions normally. I have an automatic transmission can someone help?

I have no understanding of transmission woes but just make sure your gear indicator isn't off. Do you see any movement in the letters when shifting?? I actually had an older Corvette C4 that had the inside gear selector (with the P R N D letters) move when you shifted. Something broke loose. Just throwing this out there as a simple fix if applicable at all.

If you are talking about the dashboard, it doesn't have letters indicating that. As for the shifter, no it doesn't move. It locks in place.

Seems as if NC07GTCS is onto something here. I was going to say the same thing or it might be as if the shifter is just not pulling the gear selector back far enough to get it into drive. Me have to look into some repairs for your shifter. You can it your self not terrible to do.
