Thumbs up

Hey as a lot of you my know, I have a 40th anniversary Mustang that has a V-6 engine but for some reason it seems to burn a lot of gas. Luckily my mother doesn't go very far (from work to home) but I want know, is there a reason for my pony to be so hingry? Like it has a super charger or something to cause this.

Depending on the mileage you have on the mustang it might be time for a tuneup. How about the air filter? A dirty air filter will stall the right amount of air coming into the engine. A little maintenance is usally all it takes.

What kind of mileage are you getting with the V6, cause i don't think that they're loads better than the V8. I think (dont quote me) you should be around 21/22mpg city and 27/28 highway.

Hey Ray, where are you from in Alberta?

Doing short journeys also doesn't help on mileage either. I generally get about 24mpg.

yeah, i think the v6 was rated like 19/26 and the gt was 17/25. we get aroung 19 mpg in the city in our 04GT and like 27 on the highway. but i have also gotten 9 mpg on a tank before too.

Yea I told my mom about the dirty air fillter and she'll have it checked but she thinks, as I do that there's something in there. As you may saw in my pic it does have a scoop and she says it has a lot of pick up..

Don't know what kind of milage your getting but even my Honda Civic only got 20 MPG in town doing short trips, would get 40 on the freeway though.

I'm lucky to get 14MPG in town now, but I aint complaining.

Whats funny is my 1989 ford ranger with a 2.9 V-6 only got 11 in town and was really lucky to get 20 on the freeway. Amazing how much better fuel efficient cars are now days.

Check wires to the coolant temp sensor for disconnect or bad connection or broken/corroded wires. If the PCM thinks your engine is still cold it will continue to run cold engine fuel enrichment.
