If you frequent the Movies section of this site, then you already know that the Mustang has been featured in an anime title - the 1967 Shelby GT500 in the 1995 series Gunsmith Cats:



But this wasn't the first time anime had Mustangs. Here's a list of other titles:

Riding Bean (1989) - Detective Percy uses a '67 Shelby GT500 to chase the show's hero, who drives what seems to be a cross between a Porsche and a Corvette. This anime was also by the same creator of Gunsmith Cats

Street Fighter II: The Movie (1994) - The Japanese must really love Shelby Mustangs. Guile drives a blue '66 GT 350 on the busy New York streets on his way to save Chun-Li from being killed by Vega.

You're Under Arrest: No Mercy! (2002) - Spinoff of the popular anime series of the same title. Traffic officers Miyuki and Natsumi drive a yellow 1971 Ford Mustang Mach 1 when off-duty.

That's pretty cool, now I need to see those to check out some mean animated Mustang action lol

 

Of the bunch, the best is Gunsmith Cats, as the production team sampled the engine sounds and exhaust notes of an actual GT500. Street Fighter II boasts some of the best animation in a full-length feature. Riding Bean is a classic.

The You're Under Arrest special is a major disappointment, as the car chases are bland (considering that the first two episodes of the original anime series had some of the best car chase scenes ever animated) and the animation quality is no better than an episode of Pokemon. Thankfully, it's not available in the U.S.

i used to be ahuge fan of the gundam series' plural lol.

robotech was kickarse too :P man but that was waaay back. can barely remember it...

Another great anime worth mentioning is Gatchaman. One of the main characters, Joe, drives a Shelby Cobra.

 

Speaking of which, the import Dreamcast game Macross M3 features main character Max Jenius driving a blue Shelby Cobra in the opening sequence.

Very cool stuff... I still love that Shelby in the Street Fighter movie!
I just rented the Street Fighter Anniversary video game, and it has the Anime in there.... I still love watching Guile floor it after he hears Chun Li in trouble.
I still believe that Vega got robbed LOL

I gotta watch Gunsmith Cats now... Gonna ask my brother (the Anime expert) if he's seen it.

Welp, I asked my brother about Gunsmith Cats, and he says that he's read the Manga's... He says they kick ****, and that the mustang kicks ****.
After I told him about the Mustangs in Animes, he right away said Gunsmith Cats lol

 

The japanese love the mustang... its just not practical to drive there and it would cost a lot to get one there.
